The Killing of a Sacred Deer

#1 Post by stuartboy » Wed Nov 01, 2017 9:54 pm

Stunning. Unnerving. Unsettling. Hard work. Uncomfortable. Gripping.

Colon Funnell and Nickel Kidwoman are brilliant.
Colon - have a word with your beard though. I hate the things! He might as well have had a scarf tied around his lower face throughout - you lose all facial expression. It's like seeing someone peering out of a bush.
Wonder if this would have worked as well without the intentional monotone delivery, but it was hard going listening to.
A couple of really cringe inducing parts too that really add to the discomfort felt throughout.

A brilliant soundtrack with strings acting as sound effects as well as incidental music.

Haven't felt so shocked and emotionally drained since Drive.

It's like The Lobster but without the laughs and extra helpings of darkness.

Settling and unnerving it certainly was.
I enjoyed the Lobster and was hoping for more of the same.
This was too dark and too many overtones and layers and suppositions and little comedy in this for me.
In all honesty it's been disturbing me since I left the screening over 12 hours ago now!
I'm not really glad I saw it I am a little freaked out I saw it in all honesty.
Just too much for me....
I'm not rating it as that would be unfair of me.

I have to agree - I've been unsettled by this since I saw it too. It also completely exhausted me. Traumatising perhaps.
Definitely one of the most shocking dialogue scenes I've ever witnessed that hasn't involved violence or pornography.
Definitely an experience, but be warned.

Also the rate of speech and monotonal delivery reminded me of TV Fargo, and annoyed me, but I wonder how much this (subliminally/hypnotically) helps create the feeling of unease and discomfort.

I'm still not right yet.

I don't even know where to begin on this one. I agree a lot with previous comments and certainly would not describe this picture as an evenings entertainment. Weird is what I would call it but certainly it leaves you thinking who comes up with story lines like this.
Thankfully it was a freebie as I would have been hard pressed to have spent money on something less worthwhile in a long time.

Certainly can't recommend.

Apparently the story comes from ancient Greek classical literature. Iphigenia in Aulis so it's based on a Greek tragedy which makes sense for some of the aspects that don't apply to modern day living.

Unnerving and bizarre. Some moments where I literally watched through my hands, but also was intrigued to see where on earth it would all end. Even now I'm not sure what to make of it! Second time this year, where I've watched something utterly bonkers unfold in front of my eyes (see also-Mother!) 6/10

Unfortunately I watched it with someone sitting behind me who laughed loudly throughout the film. Thus I found her more disturbing than the film.

The Lobster meets Mother!

Very strange, very disturbing - but worth the effort to stay with it.

Overly psychiatric or psychoanalytic nonsense for me - you have got to know depth psychology of ancient Greek pretentious intellectuals: I stopped watching at the middle of the film, but I got it free from the internet.
