Sgt. Stubby

#1 Post by McG » Sat Jul 28, 2018 3:26 pm

Saw this film as a preview thank to Times+ membership and have to say we all loved it ie a 9 year old boy, his 78 year old gran and myself.
The animation and characters were great and I loved how they slipped in little bits of facts about WW1 but without making it appear too educational. The film is made all the better by being based on a true story and if you wait for the credits you will see photos of the real main characters.
I will happily watch this again once it is released.
Marks 8.5/10

ps I'm not sure if it is correct to say that the US 'won the war' as it implies but it is definitely a very US patriotic film.
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

I pa*d £18 to see the Andre Rieu concert at the Odeon at Lothian Road which was brilliant but would have been annoyed if I had seen people "crashing in" without p*ying to see it.

true point, was just jesting. Personally I make a point of p*ying when I am outside the London "inflated prices" zone.

But..serious question - how would you know who was crashing in and who wasnt? Have you got inbuilt detectors? Otherwise I cant see a scenario where you would be irate.just curious.

There was a staff member called Michael who was just at the entrance of the screening selling drinks and snacks throughout the performance. Think he would have noticed you coming in without a ticket among the "mature folk" who were in the audience.

Gate crashers would be easily spotted in my 3 local cinemss as seats were allocated for Andre Rieu as 90%+ full. Some screen rooms were 100% full.

Michaels got super vision to pull that off. I was at wandsworth.

but again, i was really asking how you personally would know - i think you've confirmed you wouldnt. Was genuinely interested in how that worked where you were, no harm intended, thanks.

Surprised at just how excellent this was. Really good animation and rounded characters. It made me look up the real story of Sgt. Stubby and was amazed that it’s all true. Brilliant that the film is able to tell a story of the horrors of WW1 whilst remaining family friendly, a difficult balancing act. 9/10.
