There were so many variables in play that you're not quite sure what's going to happen at any point whereas normally in this genre things just go where you would expect them to. So much so that I could have done with less politics and more focus on some of the relationships because there were some very complex dynamics that weren't really explored or storylines that were just left hanging.

Widows (2018)
Viewed this only having seen a single still image and an awareness of a sprawling cast. Based on the pedigree of the director Steve McQueen I was expecting a wrought drama about grieving women of disparate backgrounds struggling to come to terms with Microsoft products after their husbands death so was really surprised to quickly discover it was a movie done really well.

Oh, terrible audience. Sickness, mobile phones and restlessness despite security watching on the whole time.
And terrible presentation. Dark, constant flicker and out of focus at times although that one might have been intentional.
Enjoyed it despite that.

Re: Widows (2018)
Film started with a short interview with the director; no sound! When sound came back, it simply continued; would have loved to listen to the interview.
In terms of film (hints of spoiler), the build up to the main climax was too long. Could have been exploited better to show how the women actually get ready for the robbery. The actual scene (that you anticipate the whole film) was too short. Some bits remained unexplained (eg how they got the 2nd car when they got trapped?). Very disappointed with that side of the film. However, the 2nd climax scene...really powerful (got claps in audience!), that was unexpected indeed (but personally I guessed the come back at one point or another of this character). That scene was brilliant in all aspects, so well done here. Viola is such a phenomenal actress; she just ruled the whole film. I love this actress :*
Overall: cast works well, storyline works well (but you want more)
Rating: 7/10

Re: Widows (2018)
I enjoyed this a lot. I remember the Thames TV series it was based on, from the 80's
I was in Cineworld Superscreen in Leicester Square, but was really disappointed with the presentation of the film. It seemed to be really grainy, not clear colours. Maybe I was too close, or maybe that was how it was meant to be? vx

Re: Widows (2018)
thought the trailer looked terrible
but while watching the movie if felt nothing like the trailer and was pretty good, esp the editing but the movie could of had 10min cut out as it did drag a bit.
the ending was a bit of a let down
just about a 7/10, would be higher but last act let it down.

Re: Widows (2018)
I saw this at the MOBO Movies screening at the Ritzy Brixton. Only spotted Will Poulter there in a sea of Black faces

Wow! Steve McQueen's Widows is intense, dramatic and violent! Watch out for the twists in this very contemporary heist thriller set in Chicago. Viola Davies is outstanding.

Re: Widows (2018)
Watched this film day after it’s release, the screen room was empty. I found it to be ok, nothing special. I definitely found it dragged a little, I was bored at times.
I would give it 6/10

Re: Widows (2018)
Viola Davies in particular was outstanding.
Unfortunately the rest of the film was not... It lurched from scene to scene.
The writing had some really good ideas and wonderful twists, but it was too full of toxic male stereotypes to enjoy. Every man in it was some degree of not-very-nice.it's hard to engage with characters or feel sympathetic towards them, when they're ********.
Overall, it felt forced and forceful.
The best actor was easily Viola Davies, but in terms of how the characters were written..
The best character was probably the dog.
