Pokémon Detective Pikachu

#1 Post by helenecolin » Wed May 15, 2019 10:46 am

Went to see it last Sunday. Wasn't impressed by the initial trailers to be honest, but thought I would give it a try anyway, and I'm happy I did.

It's a very nice family movie, with a reasonable plot and a good ending (I was not fully expecting it to happen that way, though I had some suspicions by the end of the film). Justice Smith is a good enough lead and Ryan Reynolds' Pikachu makes for a funny sidekick... It may not be a masterpiece, but it definitely pleased most of the Pokémon fans who were in the auditorium with me.

Really loved it. Good mystery adventure storyline with twists. Detective Pikachu voiced by Ryan Reynolds is adorable, funny and sad. When his former partner mysteriously goes missing, Pikachu helps his son track him down. The live action animation was really well done. A very fun, endearing film with Detective Pikachu being the star of the film rather than the humans. I think even if you were not a Pokemon fan you would enjoy it. A lovely family film. 8/10

I was lucky also to be able to go to the Pop Up too. It was really fun, where you can take photos with Pikachu, and re-enact the film poster. There was a room with mirrors, and a karoake room, that was really hilarious. We were also given a Pikachu drink.

Was not as bad as i thought it would be, but instantly forgettable. Reynolds is a good actor, and his voice is great, I've never seen an episode or played a game of Pokémon so no idea what this character is meant to be like normally, i have seen some complaints that the character has just changed for this film?!
