Saw a late screening of this at the BFI with Q&A with the director, and producer and cast. A surprisingly entertaining film, totally unexpected, and much better than I thought.

An excellent coming of age drama, about friendship in a particular period in 1990's Scotland. Two Scottish lads raving against the onset of the Criminal Justice Act. It is a simple story, two unlikely best friends spend one last night together at an illegal rave, but the authenticity of the details, the characters, the music makes it stand out. The interaction between the cast is excellent. They had trouble casting the two leads as their chemistry is a big part of the story, until they found two actor friends that were available at the same time to take the roles on. You can imagine those scenes in their real life. The film is almost entirely in black and white and makes for the gritty atmosphere, also the vibes of the rave is so realistic, that you feel you are there. Despite the grittiness, there is humour and laugh out loud scenes. 9/10
