Blinded By The Light

#1 Post by stuartboy » Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:43 pm

Brilliant! An interesting new take on a very familiar tale.
Great period detailing - very convincing. Soundtrack sublime.
Similarities with East is East and My Beautiful Laundrette.
Rob Bryden steals the show!

A few surprising photos in the credits.

10/10

Well worth catching.

A gentle blend of East and West culture make this musical, great soundtrack from the early to mid-Springsteen era. I recognised all the 80s paraphernalia as they were all in my brothers year at school. Well worth it for the soundtrack alone but the storys pleasant enough too (and much to my surprise SPOILER....tru).Parents looked a bit old to be his.
Nice to see young adults happy in their own skin instead of needing sprayon tans and expensive clothes/hairdos. The world was once like that, now everyone seems to have a need to tan up and wear expensive gabber to just be "norm". WHat an awful way to live life not accepting what you are.

Film started a little early at Kingston.

Now THAT is my kind of film. That is my era! I'm exactly Javed's age. I saw The Boss on the Tunnel of Love tour in July 1988 - Munich though, not Wembley. I simply b*ght a ticket and told my mother I was going - thankfully she was a bit more amenable than Javed's Dad and actually drove me there. Four hours of music - best value for money. :)

Oh sorry, the film. Lovely coming of age story. Very funny. Full of Springsteen music of course and felt almost like a musical at times. Loved Rob Bryden's small role! And was that Hayley Atwell as his teacher?

Btw, the man is still making music and I can't recommend his newest album Western Stars enough.
It's beautiful.

Great to see so many FMUKers as well!

10/10

I guess the main purpose of free preview screenings is to build positive word of mouth and encourage repeat visits. I'll be doing both and definitely b*y the soundtrack album (out Friday) too. Absolutely loved this last night, funny, moving, brilliant music and a perfect evocation of the era when my own interest in music was at its peak. This could be the next Bohemian Rhapsody.

I even had a tear in my eye more than once.

My fave film of 2019 so far, another 10/10

Great Film. Rob Brydon's wig - hilarious. Loved the music and always nice to see the real people at the end credits, Javed had seen Bruce 150 times - a true fan. 9/10

One could say that seeing something that often isn't fandom but obsession!
