Personal History of David Copperfield

#1 Post by raj101 » Sat Jan 25, 2020 6:26 pm

After sitting through the non-disclosure bound Enola Holmes today (of which the less is said, the better, totally, if you get my meaning!) this frenetic version of the Dickens classic was pure joy to watch. It hardly rests up and might be a bit too Gilliam-gone-right for some, but the cast is the cream of the crop, so many stars not only getting things just right but having a lot of fun too.

forewarning if you are a pukin racist grannie from the little britain sketch then the brown people in it might upset you a bit.

5 stars

I loved this too. It was an absolute delight.

Lovely, quirky and a heartwarming story with a great cast, and a lot of humour,

Beautiful and delightfully bonkers romp. All performances were fantastic but I especially loved Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie.

The film is all the better for shedding some characters and storylines, and altering some events slightly. At two hours long it's a streamlined delight. And who doesn't wish they could tell their younger self that they'll get through it and might even have fun on the way? :)

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much but it was absolutely excellent, very fast paced and enjoyable throughout. For anyone thinking that Dickens isn't for them, forget that as this version requires no literary or high-brow knowledge, just sit back and enjoy the film. Great performances by all the cast but Dev Patel, Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie are particularly good. A+++ recommended!
