It was overhyped and awful to be honest. Yes kudos for the technological advances, I was impressed with the improved facial expressions of the CGI characters and the scenes with water, but as mentioned by other people some fast action scenes involving CGI tended to be very blurry (much like in transformers 1, I haven't seen the 2nd one yet). I was sitting in the 3rd row.
I think the last 5 minutes of the footage, it was almost like a computer game and I felt it lost most of the audience at BFI Imax and there was a lukewarm applause at the end. Walking out, I think most people wanted to like it but almost all said they were unsure...
3 out of 10 for me I am afraid. I rather play a computer game than "watch" a computer game!

I saw the preview at IMAX Glasgow yesterday an I have to say I'm still a little unconvinced.

It has the potential to be great, but I'm just not sure who the audience is that it's aimed at - is it a kids movie (what with all the bright colours & CGI characters) or is it an action/war movie?

I have to agree that the fast moving 3D thing just doesn't work - not sure if it's the film or my eyes that take too long to adjust...

I think it's like Aliens, but with the horror replaced by the tragic romance of Titanic. It's meant to have a broad appeal, though if forced to pick a target audience it certainly wouldn't be kids.

The preview has sent me slightly obsessive about this film, and I only saw it at a VUE. I really really hope they do another Avatar day soon, quite pointless maybe, but I can't wait until december to see it in IMAX! If anybody went, was it fullscreen or was inletterboxed?

Hi Jaken,

It was in full screen IMAX 3D and quite something to see. I was sat in the 4th row (which is closer than I normally like) and the picture filled my entire vision which I think actually made it more immersive. I hope you get the change to see it like this when it comes out - I know I am excited by it!

I saw the 3D trailer for this yesterday. It came on without a title, and I turned knowledgeably to my son and said' "Avatar." I was blown away by the it - I thought the trailer was awesome, and can see now why everyone is so excited at the prospect of this film hitting the screens in December. It looked incredible, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Does anyone think we may have free screenings in light of the free 15 minute screenings that have recently happened? No, I don't think so either. ;)

I too saw the 15min preview. Enjoyed it. I think that it could be amazing. The footage didn't really build to anything, but it was just a bunch of scenes from the first half of tge movie, and I'm betting there are a load of kick ass scenes in the second half of the movie. It looks to me like a sci fi Dances With Wolves. And to me that is a good thing!

Sorry, not to do with this film but as I haven't posted yet (while I've been away for my wedding and honeymoon) my account has been on the verge of being cancelled.

Now I've posted will I be ok to lurk in future?
