Re: Julie and Julia
I saw this last week and quite enjoyed it. Meryl Streep was great as Julia Child. I too had never heard of Julia Child so I am not too sure how accurate Streep's performance is, but even if it is slightly off it is still a great role and livens up the film. The eccentricity of Child is needed against the somewhat bland modern day Julia. Anyway Child was so funny in places. I liked the bit when I think she is is in the library trying to speak French.
Again a bit too long for me, and not one to see on an empty stomach! - 7/10.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. I went with a group 7 of us and had a great time funny, and light hearted (the recipes and food look delicious make sure you eat before !!!). I would give this a 7.5/10, the only downside i can think of was that it was lightly too long but thoroughly enjoyed would definitely recommend !!!

Re: Julie and Julia
So has anyone heard anything else about the pampering sessions supposedly going on in 5 of tomorrows marie claire screenings? Im guessing theyll be the biggest city ones but if no ones been told then are they gonna be in the actual screens before the film starts I wonder?
Re: Julie and Julia
I saw this film last Thursday with a girlfriend, I'd give it 9/10 it's funny (I was convinced that Julia was played by a man in drag- even though I knew it was Meryl Streep) and I didn't find it too soppy and I left the cinema smiling.

Re: Julie and Julia
I saw this today at Panton Street. Surprisingly, IDs were being checked. My bf got stuck at work and couldn't make it, so a lady, who wasn't able to get in, asked me to be my "+1". My good deed of the day.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was much better than I had anticipated. M. Street's character was so quirky/funny. Good thing I have a cold (and consequently loss of apetite), otherwise I'd be starving by the end of the movie.

Re: Julie and Julia
We went to see this last night.
For what it was, i thought it was ok - no more than that.
The Julia Child side of the story was a better watch than the Julie Powell story - which I thought was portrayed in a fairly trite manner. I appreciate the achievements of both ladies, but it was just run of the mill.
4/10.
Inoffensive but unmemorable.

Re: Julie and Julia
Liked the Julia Childs part of the movie and to be honest would rather have a film about her and Paul rather than Julie a tiresome self-centred blogger who was riding on Julia's coat-tails.
8 out of 10 for Julia and 4 out of 10 for Julie.

Re: Julie and Julia
I was at Panton Street with a ticket from andrews (thank you again andrews!)......... obviously no ID so had to wait until 6.30 before they checked to see if seats left and let us in. They said they are always checking ID now because they have had so many photocopied duplicates and that is the only way they can check properly..........ucakpam wrote:I saw this today at Panton Street. My daughter is using Marialonza's ticket tonight at Vue Islington (thanks again to you too M!) - has anyone been there recently vis a vis ID ?
Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.

Going to see this tonight can't wait ... thanks Andrews ... will let you all kno wmy thoughts. Sounds good from what theother say. I'm taking my mum so will be a nice evening out
Re: Julie and Julia
Moondance -- we've never had an ID check at Islington Vue. My children were there on Sunday and they didn't even really bother with the Sunday Times voucher check, so hopefully they'll be no problem tonight for your daughter.
