Free concert

BBC Proms Out & About
The BBC Symphony Orchestra present a full-blown classical music concert at Westfield London on 21st June, 6.30pm - 8pm as the BBC Proms – the world’s largest music festival – goes Out & About.

The Orchestra will be joined by star soloists and local school children to present an hour-and-a-half of free world-class music as a pre-season treat for Londoners.

Out & About is a BBC Prom with a difference and provides a family-friendly preview of some of the music to come in the festival, which runs from 15th July to 10th September at the Royal Albert Hall. The free live event features show-stopping performances of choral music to reflect the choral theme at this year’s Proms.

Now in its ninth year, Out & About strives to bring the essence of the BBC Proms directly to people who might not otherwise experience it, while providing opportunities for families to get involved. Seats for all Proms concerts across the season are half-price to under-16s.

Film Nation: Shorts is coming to a town near you, so get your filmmaking hat on and learn some valuable media skills. Through their UK-wide series of film making workshops, you can learn all the skills you need to generate your own script ideas, get your hands on professional equipment and make your very own film to enter into the competition. Not sure if this is the right place for this as it won't last very long but there are plenty of other free things to do around the area

CASTER

25 June 2011
Free

You’re invited to a casting session. Head to the ICA bar anytime between 2pm and 10pm on Saturday 25 June and sign up to experience a unique participatory occasion in the Regency Box in the ICA Theatre. Each ‘session’ lasts 10 – 45 minutes with any number from 1 to 30 people taking part (groups welcome). Leading the audition are Annie Vigier & Franck Apertet (les gens d’Uterpan). They have performed ‘sessions’ at Kunsthalle Basel during the Museumnacht 2010 and at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin and bring CASTER* to the ICA in response to Pablo Bronstein’s gallery installation Tragic Stage. CASTER* turns the chorographical gaze featured in Bronstein’s Tragic Stage on you, the visitor.

No qualifications or dance experience are required. Suitable for those over 12 years old.

Annie Vigier & Franck Apertet (les gens d’Uterpan) take choreography into the context of fine art and have presented previously in the UK as part of Tate Modern’s Currency Living Currency (2008) and Paris Calling (2009). They have completed a long term residency at CAC Brétigny in France.

CASTER* is generously supported by Institut Français du Royaume-Uni.
