Re: Friends with Benefits
I'm now wondering whether to see this as same as no strings attached, just different actors.

I'll always go because they're so forgettable - already forgotten NSA so surprised by some of the clips in that mash-up trailer!

Re: Friends with Benefits
True but I have to go all the way to Wandsworth. I don't mind if it's a good film but I dont want to go to be disappointed. Watched a mash up trailer and it was basically the same film with different actors.

Re: Friends with Benefits
Yes, I too would base my decision on travel, though for Crawley or Croydon it's easy, unless I'm already doing something else. And Wandsworth is pretty inaccessible for me. But let's hope for more previews using other chains and dates!

Re: Friends with Benefits
I watched this yesterday at Empire Big Screen and it's quite a decent rom com. There is good chemistry between the two leads and the evolution of their relationship is believable. The most entertaining moments are when they are chatting quite frankly while getting physical.
This is way better than No Strings Attached despite the two films having an almost identical concept. This film has plenty of comedy and enough romance without getting too corny. There is not a huge amount of character depth despite the script's attempt to delve deeper into why they are emotionally damaged/unavailable but the two leads perform fine. It is a relief for there not to be a token best friend for each lead unlikel most rom coms, here it is believable that these two characters are best friends. Timberlake's background story is heavier than Kunis's and seems to suddenly come out of nowhere, which changes the tone of the second half and doesn't quite sit right. I enjoyed this and it is a better than average rom-com. 7/10.

Re: Friends with Benefits
Strong, funny film with two great leads, however the second half of the film is a little misjudged tonally, and tries too hard to be a meta-rom-com, whilst managing to waste Woody Harrelson, Jenna Elfman, Patricia Clarkson and Richard Jenkins, which is criminal.
Thankfully Timberlake and Kunis have charm out the wazoo to make sure that even as the final half hour drags it's heels, you still want to watch.
And at points it's really really funny.
7/10

Re: Friends with Benefits
I really enjoyed this (though with some minor reservations). It's very funny and the sex scenes are hilarious. Kunis and Timberlake have great chemistry together and the 1st half is wonderful. There are also some great support performances from Woody Harrelson, Patricia Clarkson and Richard Jenkins. Emma Stone fans be warned though. Her appearance is almost totally in the trailer. She only appears right at the beginning.
It does take a slightly odd turn into darker territory with Timberlake's Alzheimer suffering father and it never quite works in comparison to the earlier bawdy humour. You do get a fantastic performance from Jenkins as a result though but it's still a little jarring.
It also wants to have it's cake and eat it. On one hand it believes itself to be above the usual cheesy rom-coms with the use of a very funny fake film-within-a-film starring Jason Segal and Rashida Jones and with Kunis shouting 'Shut up Katherine Heigl!' at an Ugly Truth poster. At the same time it has it's fair share of cheesy moments of it's own including two slightly embarrassing dance flash-mobs.
Having said that I did enjoy it. It's no Easy A (Will Gluck's last film) but it's definitely worth watching.
