Londoners are invited to celebrate Eid at Trafalgar Square in one of the biggest events of its kind in the capital. Trafalgar Square will be alive with activity at a huge cultural celebration, held worldwide to end the Ramadan month of fasting.

Celebrating Eid
Eid ul-fitr is the global Muslim cultural event that officially marks the end of Ramadan fasting. Observed by millions of Muslims, Eid sees celebrations across communities and families throughout the world.

Join the party
London’s celebrations of Eid at Trafalgar Square are organised jointly by the Mayor of London and Muslim organisations, and includes live entertainment, market stalls, exhibitions and displays about Islam. Visitors of all ages are welcome to take part in the celebrations and find out about Muslim culture in an open, welcoming event.

London united
With growing political and social tensions regarding the integration of Muslim communities into the mainstream, Eid at Trafalgar Square provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate a joyous occasion in Muslim culture in the heart of the capital. Children and adults of all racial and religious backgrounds are invited to take part in the event, which promises to be a vibrant, uplifting day out.

Event highlights
Highlights for the 2011 celebrations for Eid at Trafalgar Square include a selection of delicious Eid food as well as souks, exhibitions and special activities for children. Last year, there was live music from Mumzy Stranger, Polish Egyptian male hip hop artist Quest-Rah, as well as UK based band Cheb Nacim, who played rai music with an Arabic and French twist. More exciting live acts are expected for the 2011 festival.

A cultural celebration
Trafalgar Square regularly plays host to a selection of cultural events across religions, with Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh events all celebrated on the Square. Londoners can celebrate the cultural diversity of the capital in suitably festive style and join with the Muslim community in the significant Muslim event of Eid.

Eid at Trafalgar Square takes place at Trafalgar Square from 2pm - 6pm, Saturday 24th September 2011. The event is free to attend.

From storytelling to amazing live music, the Feast on the Bridge provides all comers with a multitude of delicious goodies to try and a wealth of amazing sights to see.

Traffic free day
For the fifth time Southwark Bridge will be closed to traffic for the entire day and the bridge itself will be transformed into a magical wonderland of eateries. Interactive events
Inviting visitors young and old to join in the celebrations of food and drink, the party atmosphere will be enhanced by an array of activities for everyone to enjoy. The theme of this year's feast is fish, so kids and family can make the most of the Forgotten Fish Restaurant and enjoy a series of fishy themed screenings at the Cycle Cinema as part of the Feast on the Bridge programme, making for a truly multi-culinary experience all round.

Play with your food
Providing visitors with a unique chance to try a variety of cuisines al fresco, the event showcases the quality of restaurants and producers from the local area and Borough Market. Live music
Just as interesting and tempting as the foodie Feast on the Bridge, for the 2011 event there's also a programme of live music from around the world and plenty of room for dancing. The feast is set to be a wonderful celebration of food and culture in a creative and colourful setting as part of the Thames Festival 2011.

Celebrate autumn's bounty at the Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival as the spectacularly dressed Pearlies lead a parade from Guildhall Yard to St Mary-le-Bow Church.

Pearly tradition
A traditional event in the autumn calendar, the Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival at Guildhall Yard features traditional entertainment as well as live music from marching bands. The event is also set to feature donkeys and carts, in homage to the Pearlies' origins from the costermongers of the late nineteenth century.

Charity event
Following the entertainment at Guildhall Yard, the Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival forms a procession to St Mary-le-Bow Church, where there will be a thanksgiving service. Many of the Pearly Kings and Queens in the parade can trace their titles back several generations, and will be wearing black outfits elaborately decorated with traditional symbols such as horseshoes, doves, hearts, anchors and crosses.

The Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival takes starts at Guildhall Yard from 1pm, Sunday 25th September 2011. The service at St Mary-le-Bow Church begins at 3pm. Admission is free, with all money collected on the day being donated to the Whitechapel Mission.

After the Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival, there is a second harvest festival taking place at St Paul's Church, Covent Garden, on Sunday 9th October 2011.

This year sees the 11th summer pavilion at Serpentine Gallery open to the public at the renowned Kensington Gardens gallery, with a design created and installed by architect Peter Zumthor.

Summer pavilion at Serpentine Gallery
Following a decade of stunning architectural designs and installations, the Serpentine Gallery are hosting yet another innovative and no doubt popular work for the summer of 2011. With the aim of helping visitors relax and observe, the pavilion design by Zumthor places huge emphasis on the emotional affects of buildings. With a secret garden located at the centre of the pavilion, this serene installation will no doubt be a big hit with those seeking a little calm in the centre of the city.

Contemplative space
Created from lightweight timber and painted black, the structure for this year's summer pavilion at Serpentine Gallery creates a series of interior and exterior pathways down which visitors must journey to reach the ultimate sanctuary of the garden. With covered walkways and seating surrounding the central space, the garden at the heart of the pavilion is situated below a vast skylight, giving a sense of expanding space and light on reaching it.

Emotional experience
Designed with the aim of taking visitors away from the noise, traffic and smells of the city outside, the pavilion building acts as a kind of stage for the tranquil scene of the plants and flowers. Entering the structure through the shadowy corridors, you emerge from the darkness into the sunlight at the centre, to feel the emotional journey of your interaction with the architecture. Emphasising the role that the senses and emotions play in your experience of architecture, the 11th summer pavilion at Serpentine Gallery seeks to evoke a certain spiritual dimension to an otherwise simple environment.

Garden of delight
At the heart of the pavilion is the garden, designed by Piet Oudolf, a prominent garden designer with several awards to his name. Having used a variety of different plants and flowers to make use of their natural architectural qualities, visitors to the Serpentine Gallery structure will be able to witness a variety of vegetation including grasses, herbs and perennials, that have all been chosen for their different forms, textures, colours and natural beauty.

Open House
The summer pavilion is also taking part in the 2011 Open House weekend, which celebrates the architectural diversity and beauty of London. The pavilion remains open as usual from 10am - 6pm, Saturday 17th - Sunday 18th September, with a free drop in family day, Green Fingers, from 12pm - 5pm on Sunday.

The Peter Zumthor summer pavilion at Serpentine Gallery takes place from July - October 2011.
