Re: Drive
well I'm on my own here, I thought it was good, reminded me of films frm the late 80's, 90's. Yes it was slow but it was a slow burn for me, beautifully shot and Ryan Gosling was lush but scary
8/10

Re: Drive
Ryan Gosling's in nearly everything at the minute. What a busy man. Aren't we lucky?

Re: Drive
I liked this, perhaps not as much as I expected to, but I think it is a well executed slick film. I can see it as a marmite type of film although not provoking quite as much controversy as Kill List.
The story is a bit slow and there is not much dialogue, but I think it is stylish and very well directed. The cinematography is quite unusual and made it feel like an indie type of film. Gosling is great and it is quite a subtle performance, considering the character is neither likeable nor dislikeable. Great work from the supporting cast. I like that the ending didn't wrap everything up tidily. I knew there were going to be a few violent scenes but they weren't too graphic (the hammer is clearly becoming the weapon of choice in recent films for inflicting pain).
7/10.
Watford was only 50% full and had some projection problems about halfway through the film.

Re: Drive
I thought this was rather awesome, beautifully filmed and directed with style and restraint. Yes it’s slow and quiet for the most part, but that just makes the action more thrilling and the violence more shocking when it comes. Liked the soundtrack (what is that song that’s stuck in my head now?), and Gosling was indeed pretty cool in this (although he’s not quite Steve McQueen despite driving the new Mustang in one scene and trying very hard!). I’m not so keen on Mulligan though, as she seems to only have one facial expression. At just over 90 mins it was a little too short for me as well, could have watched another hour of it. An easy 8/10, call me crazy but I will most likely go and see it again on Monday!

Re: Drive
Saw this at Vue, Omni centre, Edinburgh and got our popcorn on the seats. Can't understand how so many of us got a "sorry" reply for this screening as it was only half full!!
When I asked the girl from virgin she said a lot of people probably didn't turn up because of the bad weather but we have been to other screenings with virgin in far worse weather and it has been full.
Came home tonight with 6 bags of popcorn and could have had twice as much as they were all left on the seats at the front and the girl told us to help ourselves!
The film was, as others have said, slow to start and felt that there could have been more dialogue at times. Pretty gory too.
I do wish Perlman had more to do in the film, he could sleepwalk through that kind of role and still be excellent! I was surprised he didn't have a gun on him to defend himself on the beach, being this tough gangster etc..
And to answer my own question, I've got this bloody song playing in my head, on repeat...

Re: Drive
soneone once went and forgot their ticket and got in. Its such a shame and such a waste of tickets when the place is empty. I wonder if its do to with putting the film in a different size screen than expected?smacberry wrote:Since a lot of these screenings seem to be empty due to no-shows, I'm thinking of trying my luck at just going to one of the screenings on Monday and hoping that they'll let me in. Anyone on here ever done that successfully before?

Re: Drive
I went to see this last night at Cheshire Oaks, It was so empty I could even do a head count, and there were 20 people! Even though I got tickets, I was quietly fuming because of all the people who got rejection emails!smacberry wrote:Since a lot of these screenings seem to be empty due to no-shows, I'm thinking of trying my luck at just going to one of the screenings on Monday and hoping that they'll let me in. We went to see Friends with Benefits last week and I genuinely forgot to print out the email ticket for my sister and her partner, as I started to explain the girl just waved us in, and that was quite a well populated film. If the cinema isn't too far away I'd give it a go, but say you 'forgot' your email ticket
