Free Judith Miller's Guide to Antiques

Inside The Telegraph, October 15 and 16: two free antiques guides by Antiques Roadshow's Judith Miller. Learn to spot a bargain and identify hidden gems in your home.

b*y The Daily Telegraph on Saturday, October 15, and The Sunday Telegraph on October 16, and inside the paper you will find two free glossy guides to help you discover the world of antiques and collectables. Saturday's guide covers ceramics, rugs and carpets, costume jewellery, figurines, dolls and bears, as well as general advice on how to b*y antiques.

This first guide will introduce you to the various places to b*y antiques, factors affecting value and it will give you useful reference charts of periods and styles. This booklet will show you how to understand ceramic registration marks and Ming and Qing Dynasty marks and how to identify rugs and carpets by their regions and makers. You'll want to have this booklet in your hand when browsing at every level from car-boot sales to eBay to the grandest auction houses and estate sales.

The second booklet, free inside The Telegraph on Sunday, October 16, will feature a style overview and looks at furniture, silver, glass, clocks, pocket watches and wristwatches. Learn to avoid being taken in by fake reproductions and you might also find that you've been living with pieces worth far more than you previously imagined.

These two guides have been written by antiques expert Judith Miller who began collecting in the 1960s while a student at Edinburgh University in Scotland. She has since extended and reinforced her knowledge through international research, becoming one of the world’s leading experts in the field. In 1979 she co-founded the best-selling Miller’s Antiques Price Guide and has since written more than 100 books, covering antiques, collectables, architecture and interior design.

Judith is an expert on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, and has also appeared on The Martha Stewart Show and CNN. She is a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines, including Financial Times, The Telegraph, BBC Homes & Antiques and House & Garden. She lectures extensively, including at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Smithsonian in Washington.

Free Pilates class with The Sunday Telegraph

Exclusively in The Sunday Telegraph on October 23, claim a free group matwork class with Body Control Pilates. Plus, save 25% on a block booking.

We have teamed up with Body Control Pilates to offer you the chance to experience the Body Control Pilates Method, a mind and body conditioning programme that has grown rapidly in popularity over recent years.

There are more than 300 teachers across the UK and Ireland who will host a 60-minute introductory matwork class for readers, view a list here. This class is ideal for those new to Pilates as it will focus on understanding and mastering the Pilates fundamentals through a range of gentle yet effective Body Control Pilates exercises.

It’s easy to see why it is so popular, as here is a method that delivers real results. Based on eight principles (concentration, relaxation, alignment, breathing, centreing (core stability), co-ordination, flowing movements, stamina), Body Control Pilates has a unique approach, building your movement skills step by step.

The exercises help develop your strength and flexibility, rebalancing the body, improving posture and core stability and helping you achieve a body that is toned, yet free from unwanted tension. Its slow, controlled approach means that it gives much longer-term results. It is the quality of teaching which defines good Pilates and we are proud that Body Control Pilates is widely seen as the benchmark for safe and effective teaching, making classes suitable for all levels of fitness.

Body Control Pilates is Europe’s largest professional Pilates organisation and all teachers have, as a minimum, completed a comprehensive training course in Body Control Pilates matwork and work to a Code of Practice governing teaching standards, professional ethics and continuing education. This ensures that teachers continue to build their own skills and knowledge on a regular basis.

Two free books from bestselling British authors with The Telegraph this weekend

Claim your free John le Carré and Ian Rankin novels from Martin McColls stores, while stocks last.

At Martin McColl, Martin's and RS McColl's stores this weekend, pick up two free bestselling novels from classic British authors and enjoy a cosy weekend lost between the pages.

With Saturday's Telegraph, claim a free copy of The Russia House by John le Carré and on Sunday, pick up The Naming of the Dead by Ian Rankin.

The Russia House

by John le Carré

Barley Blair is not a Service man: he is a small-time publisher and a self-destructive soul whose only loves are whisky and jazz. But it was Barley who was befriended by a high-ranking Soviet scientist and made a promise.

Nearly a year later, his drunken promise returns to haunt him and a reluctant Barley is quickly trained by British Intelligence and sent to Moscow to liaise with a go-between, the beautiful Katya. Both are lonely and disillusioned and each is increasingly certain that if the human race is to have any future, all must betray their countries ...

In his first post-glasnost spy novel, le Carré captures the effect of a slow and uncertain thaw on ordinary people and on the shadowy puppet-masters who command them.

The Naming of the Dead

by Ian Rankin

The Naming of the Dead is part of the hugely successful Inspector Rebus series of novels.

When a recently-released rapist is murdered, the police are lackadaisical. That is, until Detective Inspector John Rebus and DS Siobhan Clarke uncover evidence that a serial killer is on the loose...

When Rebus also starts looking into the apparent suicide of an MP, he is abruptly warned off the case, not least because the G8 leaders have gathered in Scotland, and Rebus's bosses want him well out of the way. But Rebus has never been one to stick to the rules, and when Siobhan has a very personal reason for hunting down a riot cop, it looks as though both Rebus and Clarke may be up against their own side...

How to claim:

To claim your free paperback edition of The Russia House and The Naming of the Dead, complete the vouchers in The Telegraph on October 29 and 30 and take them to any Martin’s, Martin McColl or RS McColl store nationwide to exchange the vouchers for your novels.

There are over 1,200 stores nationwide, to find your nearest store, visit www.martinmccoll.co.uk

Offer closes Sunday, October 31, 2011 and is available while stocks last. See newspapers for further terms and conditions.
