Also, he's critiquing Shayne Ward for his performance, even though the understudy was on that night! Poor journalism to not check the facts I'd say.
If that's the case then it sounds like the Telegraph journalist has some sort of axe to grind. Shocking journalism to say the least.
The same reviewer, Charles Spencer gave a glowing review of The Playboy of the Western World today. Both Rock of Ages and POTWW had their press night on 27 September 2011. No prizes for guessing which one Mr Spencer went to. The RoA review was shockingly shoddy and vitriolic. In comparison, there was an unfavourable review by Theatremonkey who also hated it http://www.theatremonkey.com/SHAFTESBURYbooking.htm but at least TM was fair, he explained why he didn't like it and at the same time acknowledged all the good performances by the actors and the great production values. Had great fun reading the comments below Spencer's review, well done the Fmukkers who took the trouble to post. Hope the comments will undo some of the damage done by the pompous Mr Spencer.

Well I've written ever so briefly about it already, pompous me is giving it a zero and populist me is giving it a ten
