Hey superhero, if you have a fair bad review it's all good. I've read good and bad reviews for the show so far and I could find things in each one of them I agreed with. However the Telegraph one was heavily flawed, most notably in its critique about an actor not even present the night the reviewer went to see it (fact checking surely is the nr one rule in journalism!).

I suppose he could base his review on more than 1 nights performance? but I don't think it's worth wasting time reading it, if you're saying it's heavily flawed

I don't think anything can force him to see it again :P And I am not saying he should, but he did see the worst possible show he could and the general gist I get from the rest of the review is that he is extremely biased against juxebox musicals and as such would've never given RoA a fair shot to begin with.

Wait, sorry, you mean he maybe saw it more than once, right? I doubt it. He was there on Monday and he wasn't there on Tuesday (press night) because he was at press night at the Old Vic.

Could he not have gone the week before as well? and hence did see different actors perform? But hey if I work for the Guardian, it might be a death wish to give RoA high praise....lol

he was (maybe) biassed to start with but on top of that he attended the worst show of the entire month of preview!
with 3 understudies on stage (2 had never rehearsed their roles) and very bad sound problems...

I liked your review superhero ;)

(he actually works for the Telegraph, not the Guardian)

I didn't think I would bother after you all said it was a review not worth reading

How was it?
Sorry, not me. I couldn't have made it today or tomorrow - not that I was around when the code came out in anycase. Am very much hoping for a code for another evening though!

I went to see The Playboy of the Western World at The Old Vic tonight. We had great stalls seats but I found it
so difficult to understand the strong Irish accents -- quite impenetrable to our ears. Great staging and excellent set but overall we felt disappointed.

That said -- still very happy that prettyxcool found a non-VIP code so we could spend an evening in the theatre so many thanks to her! We were also given a voucher for a free programme by someone (critic maybe?) who happened to have a spare so we lucked out all round.
