max was a lovely kid!! i loved the dancing with the robot bit too!!
Re: Real Steel
From the moment I saw the Touchstone logo at the start I was transported back to my childhood film watching days, it seemed like every great film I watched was by Touchstone (just googled them and their output was.. er a bit more mixed than I remember)
So, instantly in the mood I lapped up the silly premise, predictable story and dollop of sentiment and enjoyed every minute of the brief 2 hours.
Hugh Jackman and the boy have a strong central relationship, and will have you rooting and cheering for Atom by the end - I think I did actually hear cheering and clapping in the Trafford Centre this morning - and the robots and fights themselves are spectacular and technically marvellous.
Apart from the sprinkling of language this is a top quality film for families and big kids alike.

Re: Real Steel
What a good film. Saw this at Wester Hailes this morning. Lovely to see Kate from Lost as an un complicated character. Children very quiet so they obviously enjoyed it too.
Going again tomorrow night to take friend's wee boy who is 7, knew he would love it and younger children there this morning.
8/10 from us

Re: Real Steel
I saw the trailer for this and thought 'boxing robots', not for me.
Even the extended sequences at Big Screen back in August didn't up my expectations despite the enthusiastic sales pitch from director Shawn Levy.
However I saw this at Surrey Quays this morning and really enjoyed it.
It does rip off sequences from several Stallone movies notably Rocky and Over the Top but it's hard not to get caught up with the characters and the story. The effects were also top notch. 8/10

Re: Real Steel
Saw this at Streatham this morning and enjoyed it. The cinema was pretty empty (I don't think it's a regular for sff screenings?) but everyone seemed to clap at the end. I had a nice time, but not quite clapworthy I don't think.
A little bit schmaltzy in places, but enjoyable and thought Hugh Jackman did well as he usually does in deadbeat makes good roles. There was just a few bits that I thought needed a bit more; the Southern character that hates Charlie, not really sure what the history was there but felt a bit like I missed something (which I might have done, assuming he was an old opponent?) and then before the big fight, there was no tension/build up/preparing really. You know what we needed (maybe) - a MONTAGE!
Overall, good entertaining happy ending flick, as long as you're not expecting more you should be satisfied - 7/10 from me.
On a completely unrelated note (I'm pointing this out as a relative stranger to Streatham) there be a couple of pretty good charity shops nearby on Streatham High Road if, like me, you're a rummager!
