valda wrote:I was pleased as well, nice and dark in the cinema, really quiet no one talking or jumping apart from me  I'm a sucker for the supernatural, you know the music and set up, that something was going to happen, but I still jump. As Beate said, it was beautifully shot and cracking performances all round. I don't know what else Rebecca Hall was in, I must look her up.

LOl I came home to find I'd won a pair of tickets to this and a Q&A with Professor Richard Wiseman, psychologist and author of ‘Paranormality: Why We See What Isn’t There’, Shame it clashes with Immortals

8/10
Ditto, no talking or lighting up phones in my vicinity either.

I have also won tickets to this - am torn now as I wouldn't mind seeing it again but it clashes with Immortals. Then again, not sure that's my thing.

the front row is just waaaaay too close to the screen... in the "scary" bits they actually used hand held camera, I was scared I would get motion sick again, but I was fine :D (closed my eyes few times though!)

I thought this was very good though a teeny bit slow in the middle. I loved the look and feel and thought the acting was excellent. I found it quite scary in places but very beautifully done and good twists.

I was scared. I thought I was going to grab hopeprince's arm (nice to meet you). Who was giggling... was that you hood?

I enjoyed it, but it's given me a bit of a headache now.

OH got stuck on a train, so never made it (I think he read up on what it was about between saying he was on his way and arriving and was too scared to come. Wuss ;) ).

I feel frazzled now.

Edit: the floor was sticky in the back row.

I'm glad I was blissfully unaware of that.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Beate wrote: OH and I both thought the film was cracking. Not scary but spooky at times and very atmospheric. Very beautifully shot, with fabulous actors. The end was so sad and moving, I had tears in my eyes. And I admit I didn't see the twist coming. It had me hooked from the opening scene where a seance is rudely interrupted by Rebecca Hall, proving them all to be charlatans, and it goes on strongly after that when she is asked to investigate a ghostly appearance in a boarding school for boys, where a boy has recently died. There are no bright colours in this film but it just adds to the sad atmosphere where, according to the matron, "it is perhaps understood better than anywhere what it means to be lonely", or words to that effect.

I am glad I came out to see it, I really really liked this, and I wouldn't mind taking a second look now that I know the ending.
I totally agree with Beate's review. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Good story with twists. 8O Would welcome a 2nd look! :star:
