This Month: Precious

Set in 1987, this is the story of Clareece 'Precious' Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), an abused and pregnant teenager with a life no-one wants, who, despite her environment has made it to the Ninth grade with good marks, though she can neither read or write.

When Precious is offered the chance to change schools, she begins a literacy workshop under the tutelage of Ms. Rain (Paula Patton) taking her on a journey from darkenss, pain and powerlessness to light, love and determination.

I've had a little look at this, and saw that Mariah Carey is in it. I've heard reviews that she is a fairly good actress. Does anyone know which other films or TV shows she has been in? I don't recognise the names of the rest of the cast, unfortunately. still, I'm hoping for tickets for the North East as we are suffering a free film drought up here at the moment.

I read about this film last week, interesting article in one of the Guardian columns that made me quite want to see this, the whole cinema cheering at the end is quite rare!

Yes I am really quite keen on this film. It's a leading contender for the award season and there's alot of controversy surrounding it. Anyone see this film at the London Film festival? It's one film that I really wanted to see at the festival but missed it.
I am sure this film will have lots of free previews.

If any more screenings for London come up (can't do Wandsworth anyway), please think of me!
