It's such a long walk to Newcastle from Manchester that I don't mind telling you that the creme eggs are hidden with the Walker crisp multipacks in the loft. Lol - that and the garage are the only places that my kids never think of spoaching around for food - they are terrible with stuff like this - they are like locusts.Diane65 wrote: ....By the way where are the creme eggs hidden? I always think that swordfish and real tuna (not the tinned stuff) are very "meaty" tasting fish, too.anakin wrote:I don't like fish, but sea bass is good - tastes non-fishy and has quite a meat texture... might be one to try?
OK I'm starving now - time for my stir fry.

Got that wrong it was an "onion marmalade" not orange I thought that it sounded a bit weird.Diane65 wrote:The cheek of herMs Thrifty wrote:Ages since I cooked something properly, i.e. from scratch, so I mentioned to my sister that I'd made something for dinner, saying I'd used raw ingredients, to try to convey what I meant. And - but of course - it was very healthy.)I knew it would be healthy and you are certainly not lazy.
Preston the steak sounds gorgeous and I love spinach and rocket, I always have it with grilled tomatoes and I had a recipe for a relish made orange marmalade which adds some extra flavour, I will try to find it. By the way where are the creme eggs hidden? I love them so would make myself go for a very long walk so that I could have one (that's my downfall so need nagging re this).
rawr_xoxo well done with your healthy eating. What's a McCains jacket? I assume a jacket potato.
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large red onion thinly sliced
1 tbsp light soft brown sugar
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Heat the oil in a heavy-based pan and cook the onion for 15 minutes over a very low heat until soft. Add the sugar and vinegar and simmer until syrupy. Season and tip into a dish ready to serve with the steak and spinach. I know that 15 minutes is a long time but it is well worth it and it really does add that special extra something . This serves 4 (I could eat the lot myself but then I'm greedy but would defeat the objective of being healthy)

Is it just me? - and I know it's early days yet, but why is it whenever you are on a diet you can't help continually thinking about food?
What a great recipe for the "Onion Marmalade" Diane - looks like it would be very tasty
Surely it can't be that slimming though can it? Olive oil and brown sugar? Although I guess its mostly caramelised onion at the end of the day, and anyway we need the occasional treat, if only in moderation.
Sounds simple enough to make too, even I'd feel confident having a go at that. I bet it would go nicely with other things apart from steak - I'd like to try it with tuna as well.

Re: Weight Watchers
I'm waking up thinking about food. The onion marmalade is for 4 people so in that small quantity its fine I always want to add a dollop not just a tbsp.Preston1990 wrote:Is it just me? - and I know it's early days yet, but why is it whenever you are on a diet you can't help continually thinking about food?

I'm having today as my day off so going for a carvery tonight (the £2.99 Crown Carvery deal that I have posted on the restaurant thread - not a £10 potato at the National Trust) but still having a low calorie breakfast and lunch as I want a Yorkshire pudding later and there can be 2 takes on a day off; 1) giving yourself a break from the "diet" or 2)completely blowing it hence I need to take option 1.
rawr_xoxo just found your McCains jackets what a good idea when you're on limited time (and even when you're not). I quite fancy one with half a tin of ratatuoille or even a full tin if I'm really hungry (its about 160 calories a tin so 300 or 380 calories per lovely meal), they would be perfect on cinema nights as it would be less than 10 minutes to zap in the microwave.

Re: Weight Watchers
I can fully empathise with what you are saying about waking up and thinking of food.
Sadly, I've just had the most enormous breakfast
- it probably was enough to feed four. I set out to be good, but I made so much of it and it looked so yummy. I couldn't even share it out amongst the family, as they are all away for the weekend visiting my M-in-Law. Unfortunately, I was unable to go with them as I have urgent business at home reorganising my sock draw.
I think I'll compensate for this mornings indiscretion by either skipping lunch altogether today, or having something really insignificant.
Mmmm Diane ..........Yummy Crown Carvery!
I love those meals so much and they are fantastic value, but I used to get really embarrassed by the stares I got on the way to a table after I'd piled my plate up. "LOOK AT HIM MUMMY!!"
It was never enough to stop me from doing it though. For me, for the moment anyhow, my Crown Carvery days are over.
Keep up the good work everyone - keep away from those creme eggs Diane!

Now do you want the gentle approach or the nagging?Preston1990 wrote:I can fully empathise with what you are saying about waking up and thinking of food.![]()

Option 1:
Don't worry we all have our moments of over indulging but don't skip meals just have something light and nutritious to balance out the day. Maybe fit in a little exercise if you can and good luck.
Option 2:
Now we'll have none of that skipping meals malarkey
Just take your large breakfast as being your treat on your treat day and now its healthy food for the rest of the day.
You can still do your Carvery on your treat day but choose loads of good vegetables and just a couple of roasts potatoes.
I don't know you well enough yet to know which approach you like and sorry if I've offended you by the nagging as I don't intend to but as we are on the journey together lets go for it.
Please nag me all you like I'm not very sensitive so go for it as I want to loose at least one stone or maybe two. Shame I really fancy a creme egg now

Paah! - Call that nagging?!! You'll have to do a lot better than that - don't forget I'm married!!Diane65 wrote: ............and sorry if I've offended you by the nagging..........
That's like not even on the nagging scale Diane!! You'll have to introduce an option 3 otherwise it'll not work with me at all
Anyhow - You'll be pleased to hear that my lunch wasn't skipped after all
I chopped up a tomato, a baby beetroot, two spring onions and three sticks of celery and threw all this (along with 1/3rd of a can of drained chickpeas) into a bowl on top of the remainder of my rocket, spinach and watercress leaves. OK, I had a reasonably large dollop of "rich creamy coldslaw" with it as well.
But hey, that's a lot better than three packets of crisps and 2 creme eggs which hasn't been unheard of for me for lunch in the past.
Mmmmmm.........Scrummy Creme Eggs Diane! - your favourite!!
Creme Eggs, Creme Eggs!! Pull yourself together, Moonface!!!Diane65 wrote:Please nag me all you like I'm not very sensitive so go for it as I want to loose at least one stone or maybe two. Shame I really fancy a creme egg now![]()
What are you thinking of woman!! Do you want to lose those "humungous" thighs of yours (which incidentally, are all the talk of FMUK) or not?
Bad enough that you're having a Crown Carvery (with a yorkshire and roasties) without contemplating creme eggs as well in the same day.
Hope you have a lovely guilt free meal this evening
How was that for you?Diane65 wrote:Please nag me all you like I'm not very sensitive so go for it ...
