Oh Valda - That is Great News! Well Done!! o/

Another success! Woohoo akh43!! o/

Those are great results. If you two are like me - actually seeing your results really will give you a huge buzz and make it all seem terrifically worthwhile and spur you on to continue.

akh43 wrote:I keep reading everyone's healthy eating but due to my being so faddy I am just trying to cut out my snacks a bit, which I think is my main problem, and eating my normal meals which in my eyes are reasonably healthy
akh43 wrote:surely any activity is better than being a couch potato, which is my usual position

I'm definately no expert (we'll need to get MrG's take on this for that) but what akh43 says here rings very true with me, and maybe is a very good point to bear in mind. Someone on this site (can't remember who) has got a quote as part of their signature which says something like "if you keep on doing the same old things - things will stay the same".

Every time I see it, I think "Yeah, that's very true". But actually I guess you don't need to radically change everything you do to bring about some significant changes.

By cutting down on our more outrageous snacking habits, and simply taking some more exercise than what we would usually do, I'm sure we will see at least some improvements and move towards our weight loss goals.

OK perhaps that wont be the optimal path, and we won't get to where we want to be so quickly, or go as far as we initially wanted, but a more "relaxed" approach may actually make the difference between someone saying "Oh sod it - I've had enough this is just too onerous" and "Yeah, I'll keep on going, cause it's pretty relaxed really".

I guess it's horses for courses, and even for the same individual, how they feel may change over the course of time.

As someone mentioned earlier - "If you eat less calories and increase the rate at which you burn them, then you will lose weight!"

Let's all strive our best to just do that - but also keep in mind that we are not having to be too obsessional about it, or make it any harder for ourselves than it needs to be.

Slow and steady wins the race!

Diane - The very best of luck, I'm really excited for you. I just know that all your hard work is going to have pa*d off and that you are going to do well!! :bighug:

Diane + Akh43 will we be seeing "weight loss ticker things" from you two? :D

A long time ago I once had the good fortune to ask a very wise old french woman. "To what madam do you you attribute your long life and youthful good looks?"

She stopped smiling for a fleeting instant and for a moment she looked at me directly over the top of her gold lorgnettes, her grey hair moving gently in the cool breeze, the early morning rays gently carressed the nape of her neck.

She blinked against the sunlight and paused for a moment, the skylarks whirled noislessly overhead in the cloudless Tuscan sky, then she softly replied in a voice no louder than a whisper "Ahouias Monsieur Preston - I put my success down to being healthy both in mind and body like all of my family before me. I have been taught to treat my body like a temple. Vous comprenez?"

She looked shyly down to the dusty floor. The empy walnut husks swirled around the old courtyard in the soft summer light. Her gaze returned to my face once more and she began to tell her tale.

"Monsieur, I am especially fastidious you see, when it comes to my choice of breakfast food. For me, it is the most important meal of the day and because of that, it is only right that the choice of food should be taken very seriously. We owe it to ourselves to eat it slowly and at exactly the same time every day."

I looked directly at her, her watery lifeworn eyes met mine and I asked her What kind of things would she recommend that I eat.

A small flicker of amusement played in her darkly brooding eyes. She cast her gaze to the far off horizon and to the line of small plane trees that ran down the valley to the stream. Eventually she quietly explained to me that the French were a proud nation who took their culinary expertise very seriously and that she herself now followed the advice handed down to her by her late grandmother on her deathbed at the age of 110.

"What did your grandmother eat for beakfast?", I asked her.

"Ce qu'a fait votre grand-mère mange pour petit déjeuner, madame?"

Now the skylarks had stopped their whirling, the husks in the courtyard remained still, a cloud moved slowly to block the sunlight casting a dark shadow over me. I shivered and fear washed over me.

The reply came softly, yet menacingly.....

"huit heures bix, monsieur."

I turned and walked slowly back along the track to the car and smiled at Sarah. I knew that the summer was over now and life would never be the same!

Todays food:

1. Huit Heures bix - Two with skimmed (not semi-skimmed) milk. Selection of fruit - melon, grapes, blueberries.

2. Raw carrot sticks with smear of humous.

3. !/2 Bag of salad leaves - jacket potato (not a real oven prepped one - just a quick 5 min blast in microwave)

4. Tuna mayonaise sandwich

5. 枝豆 beans, sweetcorn and dark soy sauce dressing.

Huit Heures Bix? :/
Never heard any French person saying Weetabix this way!

I have had such a bad time/mood lately that my diet is... well... chaotic.
Pasta, pizza, cheeseballs, chocolate, sandwiches, etc etc. And too much alcohol. My body starts to be upset so I'll try my best to be good with it. I just don't want to cook, don't want to think. I'm gonna b*y tones of soups...

Well thank goodness you've landed up here then! :D

It's great that you describe your diet as chaotic - That will mean there's plenty to go at, and just think of the benefits that even minor changes to it will bring you.

Hey remember too, this is a weight watchers thread not Masterchef - no-one has to do anymore cooking than they feel comfortable with. Nothing wrong with Soup!

Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along shortly to offer you some real advice.

I landed on this topic a while ago ;) Mr Glass already gave me some advice actually.
I just don't give much news cause I know what are the good things to do... but I don't do them anymore. Well, not done any lately. I felt guilty, I needed to write it here ;)

OOPS - Sorry I realised (just after I posted) that you had been on the thread before, so I chopped some of my original message out. Obviously not quick enough though.

Do you not fancy having another go?

Well, I'm doing what we call "yo-yo": lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, etc etc.
I'm not overweight, I'm not skinny, I'm just curvy, but I wouldn't mind losing a few pounds! So yep, I'm gonna be careful (again) and try to be healthier (again). Not easy for a greedy person... but I guess it's everybody's case here :p

To try and fit in some exercise I walked very briskly to the cinema last night which took me just under 30 minutes and the same going back, I wore my shape-up trainers for added exercise. It made me walk briskly back to get home before dusk because its a very long road with very few people on it. I do apologise to akh43 and Betty Botter for my appearance last night (a sweaty head) although they said I looked fine but when I returned home my daughter's first words were "you look attractive" (obviously sarcastically) but at least I managed to fit in some exercise.
Menu of the day
Fruit and Fibre
The rest of the day is on hold as at the dental hospital for a procedure that apparently takes one and a half hours (I went last week expecting to have it done only to be told it was just to tell me to book an appointment :wall: and I can't see what you can do in one tooth for that length of time - I can't stand being faffed around I would much rather they just stick the needle in do what they have to do and send me on my way (sorry for the moan)) but I will eat something healthy possibly soup.
