Welcome on board Biggins, we will all get there together.
I've never had a smoothie instead of a meal and as I have strawberries, bananas and blueberries in sounds good. Does it fill you up? I'm so used to chewing it would seem strange to have a drink instead but I'm always ready to try something new. I can really recommend the Weight Watchers quiche it was delicious :D

Ahem, I don't have smoothies instead of a meal, Diane65 - they are part of one! But say as a replacement dessert at dinner, or to supplement lunch if that's just soup and a roll, or a sandwich. They can certainly be filling; it depends what you put in them. Some of the commercial versions include oats and/or other grains, which would obviously increase that effect. My suggestion is to try something simple like plain banana + milk/yogurt, to see if you like it, then experiment by adding anything else suitable you have to hand. I've tried banana + strawberry now (can you believe OH declined this opportunity?!); banana + blueberry today. Shame the home-made type wouldn't travel well if you were out and about for the day as I often am, but if you had a fridge - at work, say - they could form a useful part of your strategy.

Welcome from me too, Biggins. :D

Well done on losing that pound! There will be no stopping you now, because once you've made a start it becomes addictive. o/

Diane, it was really, really wet!

The walk was actually a little longer than the originally planned 8 miles. We covered just over 9 miles when I googled it. I never found my waterproof overtrousers, so the water ran straight off my barbour jacket and soaked into the thighs of my trousers. Lovely!

Twenty minutes in to the walk and I looked like I had been wading in the sea - my lower half including my water permeable mesh trainers (good choice!) could not have been wetter.

Surprisingly enough though I really enjoyed it. In no way shape or form could our pace have been described as "brisk". We just strolled at a leisurely pace having a good old chat, putting the world to rights, like two grumpy old men. It took us around 4 hours in all.

I'm not used to walking full stop. So 9 miles is a really long way for me - I take my hat off to Rawr - there's no way I could ever do 26 miles on the same day, or maybe even in the same week!

I felt fine after the walk apart from being soaked through. Last night my right foot/ankle seemed a little sore and achy and that's a little more noticeable today. I have a friend ;) who is a really good podiatrist who I'm thinking of maybe asking for advice :D

The ache is centred around the area in front of my ankle on the top outer edge of my right foot. I would describe it as coming from around the :shifty: inferior extensor retinaculum and extensor digitorum brevis muscle areas. Could it be a bit of mild tendonosis? I don't think it's anything to worry about and I'm expecting it to settle down after a bit of a rest.

Today's Meals:

1) 2 weetabix, 2 big strawberries, small handfull of blueberries, semi skimmed milk. Black coffee,

2) Couple of sticks of cellery to snack on.

3) Jacket potato, corned beef and cottage cheese filling, Small side salad.

4) Tuna steak noodles. Dark soy sauce dressing,

5) Pear.

Oh yes, and loads of water all day! :D

Well done on your walk Preston o/ Maybe you tied your shoelace a bit too tight on that foot and all the walking has irritated it. Hope a rest will sort it out.

Seeing your menu for today reminds me of your weetabix "story" - I got it!! ;) very funny and very descriptive-although some seemed to think it was all true!!! :p

For those on this part of the forum who don't know me - I am female and just turned 65 in March. Two years ago I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic and had to cut out sugary things but although I lost weight at first with doing without sugar in my tea, biscuits, cakes etc I slowly put it back on. When I went for a checkup three weeks ago my blood sugar level was up and so was my weight. Told to lose weight by cutting my portion size and eat more wholemeal bread etc as it will keep me feeling fuller and also change the special K I have for breakfast to plain cornflakes (less sugar)and also cut out my weekend glass of wine!!! 8O

If my blood sugar level isn't down by the time I go back in October for my six months checkup then they will increase my metformin tablets which I am not happy to do.

I get the newsletter from diabetes. co .uk and on their forum a lot of people have discovered that it is the carbs that are to blame and telling us to eat more wholemeal bread and other starchy things is wrong and that is causing the weight gain. Some have cut out carbs completely and have successfully reduced their weight and blood sugar level. It is NOT the Atkins diet as it is not as drastic just being more careful of how many carbs you eat. I couldn't have curry without the rice for example but some have. Even a latte has carbs - so I have to be careful how many of those I have in a week.

My daughter's OH gave me a book to read called Big Fat Lies by Hannah Sutter who says we should all go back to the hunter-gatherer diet when man ate meat that he killed and fruit and seeds that he gathered. She says it is the carbs we now all absorb daily that is causing the nation to be obese.
Daughter's OH tried it for 4 weeks and lost 11lbs. I don't think I could go that drastic and I know I wouldn't stick to it but will cut back on the carbs and still go swimming once a week as normal and see how I get on. I'll slip and slide but will see if it makes a difference.

Oooh get you with your self diagnosis 10/10 o/ But do rest it for a few days as you don't want to aggrevate the injury and then you will soon be on the road to recovery, but do post back if it doesn't settle down. Also check your footwear and make sure that they are supportive.
