Just prepared a menu for next week to:
1) not waste food I would b*y but forget in the fridge or cupboard (happens too often!!)
2) not spend too much money on food (i usually b*y again and again and feel guilty when I see my bank account)
3) eat healthier
Go go go!

Thanks Diane :star: , I knew that you'd sort me out with some good advice. o/

I have always had fallen arches (flat feet) and my feet and ankles have always been a weak point and seem to tire quite easily. I'm going to forgo the bike and rower today, and maybe tomorrow too, because next week's long walk is going to be on Wednesday and I want my foot back by then.

I've been limping around the supermarket today pushing a trolley - not because I was going to b*y a load of stuff, but because it took some of the weight off my foot.

Woah, listen to me whinging on! :nono:

Hope everyone is doing OK with the old healthy eating/fat burning/water drinking thing!

The smoothies sound like a nice alternative to eating plenty of extra fresh fruit.

I was pretty bad today :tears: - I had just eaten my lunch but still went spoaching in the fridge. I spotted this yummy looking massive quarter of a pork and chicken pie topped with apricot halves from the Deli (Think melton mowbray pork pie kind of affair but much posher!). Before I knew it I had succumbed and eaten it all. :nono:

Heaven knows how many calories were in it. It was solid with pork and chicken and even had that jelly stuff to fill in the air spaces in the top, and a one of those really thick almost greasy pastry crusts. 8O

I'm feeling so annoyed and disgusted with myself. I will be having tonight's tuna without the noodles but with a tiny green salad instead to try and claw back some ground. :wall:

......Daughter's OH tried it for 4 weeks and lost 11lbs. I don't think I could go that drastic and I know I wouldn't stick to it but will cut back on the carbs and still go swimming once a week as normal and see how I get on.
That sounds like a good plan Biggins. I presume that you monitor your own blood sugar level quite regularly and would be able to see what changes the reduced carb intake was having?

They don't give type2 monitors any more to check your own blood sugar levels. They say it isn't necessary but that is why things go wrong as it is only checked every 6 months when you get an appointment at the diabetic clinic at your sugery. My last check up was June last year and should have been seen again in December but they changed their computer system and I was missed so didn't get seen until April. Only get told about checking sugar content on the back of food items and told to eat healthly and watch your weight and, of course, give you pills and more pills if that fails!!!

Might b*y a monitor and strips myself and take it now and again.

That sounds like a sensible idea, especially if you are contemplating making changes to your diet which may affect your blood sugar levels. I assume you can get whatever is required fairly cheaply these days off eBay.

I would get yourself checked to see if you need orthotics as you will be increasing your exercise regime therefore putting more strain on your feet; you need to do it before you start embarking on your long walks as you don't want any more injuries. I know I'm going on (nagging) but its only because I care.

Don't they have an Diabetic Expert Patient Programme in Scotland? They are well worth going on as its a 6 week programme full of useful tips re diet, exercise, lifestyle etc. It's usually run by a dietician and another health care professional.

Preston1990 don't beat yourself up about the pie as its history now so the only way is forwards, we all have blips.

OK - I'll see about that. One question though... If I got orthotics would I be able to snowboard wearing them?

Yes you can as they are essential for when you are doing a "Haakon flip" and a "Wildcat" so that your ankles are supported when you land :giggle:

Menu of the day:
Smoothie made with 200ml of milk, strawberries, a banana and blueberries (250 calories as had a large banana) - thought that I would try it on a Saturday in case my stomach starts rumbling. Its absolutely delicious :D (Thanks MsThrifty o/ )
6 jacobs savours with brussels pate, cucumber and a activia greek style yogurt with honey (400 calories)
Steamed chicken marinated with orange (made with oranges and then mixed with orange marmalade to serve) and Tarragon, green beans, Chantennay carrots, green beans and Jersey Royals. Strawberry jelly and strawberries (430 calories)
1/4 of a maltesers Easter egg (that's all I have left otherwise it would be more- but good as I only have 120 calories left) Still got a buttons egg in the cupboard o/

Will do a four mile walk later.

What's everyone elses plans for the day?

They may have for a type1 diabetic but for type 2 definately not a six week programme. I was sent to the hospital for one day where they had a class on food, exercise etc. which told you how much sugar was in things you drink eg. a bottle of coke, food items - again wholemeal promoted!! and to walk and exercise more. Spoke about watching your feet and had our feet inspected for lose of feeling. Went away with leaflets and pills!!!

One of my friend's is the same and is so confused by what they tell you at these diabetic clinics. So I am doing my own thing now and see how I fare.

In Stockport we have them for type 2 patients as well, its a shame that you are left to your own devices without proper guidance. Maybe worth looking at the above link, its really good for lots of other long term conditions as its all about quality of life.

Good luch Biggins o/
