It was meant to be my rest day but couldn't resist doing a brisk 2 mile walk (I have to do an extra walk around the block to make it the 2 miles), I bribed my daughter with food to drop me off at the cinema so I could walk back as I didn't have enough time to walk there. I thought that she would choose something unhealthy but she picked a pasta dish from the Good for You range at M & S, OH opted for curry and chips/rice from the Chinese as a bit fed up with all my fruit and veg that I keep on giving him
Where is everyone else today?

Those six Rolos may not seem much of a treat in your world DianeDiane65 wrote: Are you not having a treat day Preston? A few Rolo's is not much of a treat as I've already had my treat day this week my buttons Easter egg is still at the back of the cupboard and will be there for a few more weeks as I've got 2 meals out this week http://www.gustorestaurants.uk.com/menus/food-menu with friends from work and the carvery with OH, daughter and Mum so I will have to be healthy on one of them and coffee and cakes and another meal out next week
I've got an important (for me) mid-term weightloss target coming up soon, and I don’t want to miss it by being too lenient with myself at this stage. You know what they say "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!".
I'm loving your relaxed approach to eating out.
And.........can I just clarify the "rule" on treat days.....It is only once per week isn't it?
It could be just me, but I'm kind of feeling that yours seem to be coming around a bit more frequently than that,......No, No, I am not accusing you of anything, that's absolutely fine...........just sayin' though!
It's weigh-day tomorrow - The scales are a cruel mistress and they never lie. We'll see how good you've been!
Lovely to see your post akh43. You made me smile because I've felt like that myself so many times. In reality, your Pizza Hut trip wasn't that bad - you were sharing food and even then you made up for it later
Remember to drink loads of water as it contains no calories. It can help boost your metabolism, and it has the added benefit of making you feel full - so you naturally stop eating sooner, because you feel less hungry. I find that eating loads of salad and vegetables works well for me as they are filling and nutritious, without being too calorie laden, and they leave less room for any bad stuff. I rarely feel hungry these days!
You mention that you have a problem with your feet. My own ankles get sore very easily. You may want to try different exercises to walking to see if that helps. Swimming for example is a great way to tone the whole body without stressing any part of it. I personally find using the exercise bike less hard on my feet than walking because it does away with the impact of foot against ground. Mind you, you seem to be doing loads of steps anyway - that must burn up a load of calories.
Hark at me giving advice. If you could see the size of me, you would see just how ironic that is. Slimming tips from the fat bloke! Hahahaha! One day though - who knows!
Biggins I loved hearing about your walk along the seafront looking at the shops. Walks like that are great where you can take in lovely scenery and browse stuff in shops - it makes the whole thing seem much less arduous and more of an enjoyable experience. And....its just as good exercise, so well done!!
Octopus - I've got to agree with Diane, it's going to be muscle. Keep going, see what happens next week!
I'm getting a bit cheesed off with myself for not sticking to my 1 hour a day exercise plan. I only did 25 mins on the rower yesterday, even though I had plenty of time. So I'm forcing myself to do an exercise bike for 35 mins this morning and a 25 minute rower session this afternoon. I may even try my "walk from home" thing around lunchtime today too, as the weather is so nice!
I'm doing my weekly walk with a pal again tomorrow and hoping that we can cover a bit more ground than we did last week.
Good luck with what ever you are all up to today. Be good and let's hear how you're all getting on. Never give up, never give in!!
To quote my favourite podiatrist "We are going to be so tight and toned this summer!"

Menu of the day:
All bran and milk and a black coffee (300 calories) - I would rather have a larger bowl so that I don't get hungry as I'm not allowed to eat between meals (as in a clinic)
2 Ham salad rolls with sweet chilli sauce loads of rocket and tomatoes and a weight watchers yoghurt (300 calories)
Linda McCartney vegetable burger on a bun (a whopping 400 calories
Salad lots of with low calorie dressing (50 calories) 2 kiwi (50 calories)
Fab ice lolly (90 calories) it is a gorgeous day.
I've finished work for the day as going to a meeting at 5pm (work related) so just heading off after lunch for a 4 mile walk and then as I've just treated myself to some dumbbells this morning I will have to do my DVD tonight to try them out (I can't wait until weekend - I might live to regret saying that when I can't move my arms later

What's your important mid-term weight loss target or is it a secret?

Re: Weight Watchers
Went for a swim this morning as it is a nice day here. Outdoor pool at David Lloyds is good when the weather is fine. A relaxing 15minutes in the jaccuzzi afterwards (will all these bubbles and jets get rid of some of the fat belly??
)
Had a bad day yesterday as I was sitting in the hairdresser's chair for two hours, so I wasn't very active (but more attractive
) then ate too much mashed potato last night with my liver and onion casserole as I had put too much gravy on my plate so had to mop it up.
Sat watching Corrie and Eastenders last night so had some chopped walnuts - and then some more chopped walnuts!!!
I am at my worst when sitting watching TV.
Hope to get back on track today.
Menu:-
Breakfast : granola with semi skimmed milk and blueberries.
Lunch was a hard boiled egg chopped with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, celery and a drizzle of low fat dressing. A yoghurt.
Eggs are good as they are almost zero carbs and are filling.
Tonight before going to the cinema: Chicken wrapped with a slice of bacon, cauliflower, carrot and five small jersey royal potatoes.
When I come home probably a small banana or two oatcakes with a cup of tea. Both have a lot of carbs but have to keep my blood sugar level up so it doesn't dip too far by morning.
I am trying to lower my carb intake by mainly cutting out - or down - on bread and potatoes. Root vegetables like potatoes, parsnips, swede, and carrot all are higher in carbs than other vegetables so trying to watch that. Time will tell if it all works!!

Re: Weight Watchers
mmmmm biggins, your dinner last night sounds deeeelish!!!! as for the walnuts, gillian mckeith has a list of 'unlimited' foods and walnuts are on there, which means you can eat as many as you like and it can only do you good (not sure if that's true if you're on a 'medical' diet)

Your meals sound lovely but don't you find that you don't get much granola for your calories? It may work better on your carb intake than on my calories. I like a lot of food for my calories as I'm a greedy guts.

Re: Weight Watchers
Re cereal portions: I'm always mystified by pack info which suggests 50g (or sometimes less!) as an average serving. There are few cereals of which I wouldn't eat double, i.e. 100g (but I do always weigh mine out) and they are only the very light, bulky ones. Maybe manufacturers assume you are having other items as well but I don't - it's cereal + fruit only for me, so definitely a 100g job!
And when I stay in hotels which have cereal in packets, that means 2 packets, which I take with impunity. I'm not the one having a fry-up or toast as well...

Re: Weight Watchers
I've just got weighed this morning and I am happy to report that I have lost 5 pounds this week.
I'm ridiculously happy about this, particularly because the BMI index thing now no longer classifies me as "OBESE". Oh yes indeedy, I'm now just merely "VERY OVERWEIGHT". Fantastic!!
Hey!! but how cool is that? - I've got four Rolos with my name on for a special treat later on.
OK - I know that there is plenty more work to be done, but this marks the achievement of a personal mid-term weightloss goal for me. I know that this initial success will spur me on to try and lose more weight and to get closer to my final target. I wanted to thank everyone here for their on-going support, advice and encouragement. I couldn't have got this far without you guys!
On a completely different issue.........

A smiling Diane (centre) standing at the measuring and weighing table at infant school

Diane prepares her breakfast granola
As you know bad habits started in childhood so often follow people through into adulthood. Diane is no exception, although she still finds it hard not to add an additional amount to the recommended dose of granola, these days she employs her newly acquired Salter digital scales to keep on top of portion control and her "Tracy" DVD to keep her arms in check, as best she can.

Good luck everyone who has their weigh-day today, I am off out for my walk today and the weather is looking good!

Even back at infant school Diane was cursed with pudgy arms brought about by her over indulgence with granola and an unhealthy obsession with the infant school weighing table. She's always felt that you never got enough granola in the daily recommended measure, so was prone to always adding a little more, as clearly shown in this post ponytail picture of her.Diane65 wrote: Your meals sound lovely but don't you find that you don't get much granola for your calories? ........I like a lot of food for my calories as I'm a greedy guts.
