Hi ClareBarr I am sorry to hear you are so downhearted but joining us on here will help as we all encourage each other.

I am older than the rest of you so I don't go running, riding bikes etc. but I do go swimming once/ sometimes twice a week. I had about 2 stones to lose as I am trying to get my weight down to help my diabetes and found that by reducing the number of carbs I eat in a week I have lost 6lbs in 6 weeks. This was quite easy as I cut down on the bread and potatoes mainly and substituted it for other vegetables etc. I can't eat a lot of sugary things now anyway so that is not an issue with me but carbs turn into sugar so I haven't cut them out completely but reducing them has helped a lot and my stomach is now flatter and family are now noticing the difference in me.

Hope this helps you.

Diane - didn't realise that you had lost a stone in 7 weeks - that's terrific. Well done o/

My menu today consists offfff..

2 crumpets with butter(which ive already had :D) 2 x 98kcal)crumpets and its 48kcal for 10g of the butter, think i had around 15g, hard to tell when the butter is soft as! so lets say 72kcal!
268 calories for brekky!

Im off to walk up sutton now to post my bfs phone off, and do some shop searching, possibly take me up till just before lunch time, so thats my lengthy stroll for the morning o/

Lunch is a WW mushroom rigatoni which is 267
And ill be having Pink Crispin apples as snacks o/ theyre alot sweeter, so im hoping that will stop me having so many, since i find galas quite moreish!
I've had three, and im sticking with just that now!
I've also got Pepsi Max for drinks.
I know I shouldnt be drinking it, but im using up all the stuff that my mom b*ght me this weekend despite asking for sparkling flavoured water :(
I will be having a hot smoked salmon and pea puree sandwich(I LOVE MORRISONS) which was 380 calories, picked up a pepperami which the bf had, and my sparking water which is like 3 calories a bottle :)

Had another apple when i got in too, looks like its all p*ying off already though :o

Thank you and well done to you too - How hot are we going to look this summer? (I've never looked hot in my life but I can live in hope  )

So sorry to hear that you are feeling down ClareBarr, its a different ball game when its health reasons why you have gained weight and as Biggins has proved that even with medical conditions you can still lose weight and we are all here to support and encourage you. Weight loss will help your fibromyalgia and also the positive vibes by losing the weight, no-one on here judges anyone. You may have read some previous posts especially from Preston1990 picking on me but it truly is banter and my excess weight is due to way too much socialising, coffee and cakes, meals out, chocolates at the cinema - the list goes on  so I deserve it and I can take it. So please join in and we will look after you on your journey to lose weight and try and help you to get in a happier place.

Hi and Welcome from me too, ClareBarr! :D

It’s lovely to have some new people on here. The more the merrier I say, and we all help and encourage each other along the way. I personally find that the interaction with the people on this forum is a great motivator in my weight loss mission. I know for a fact that if I was trying to lose weight by myself in isolation, so to speak, I would never be able to do it. Coming on here and sharing my plans with the others makes it all seem (relatively) easy, and once I’ve written it down here, I feel more compelled to stick with it. o/

Being able to discuss my goals, intentions and progress with the lovely people I have met on this forum helps me enormously. The people here really are great and a kind of camaraderie has built up amongst us. It’s great to see everyone encouraging and supporting each other whilst having a bit of a laugh (Yes, and sometimes even a tease Diane ;) ) at the same time.

There really seems to have been some tremendous progress made by lots of the people on this thread – I’ve a feeling that it will work for you too. And……we’d love to have you along. :D

I’m sorry to hear about your health problems. I know what a shock, and how disheartening, that can be – but as others have already mentioned quite a few of us on here have medical issues, so you are not alone - we do understand. I have coronary heart disease and as a result of a heart attack decided to take early retirement when I was 52. That was five years ago now.

Part of my particular problem is eating as a form of taking a break from the boredom of sitting around at home with too much time on my hands. Could this be the same with you, because of the reduction in your working days? If so, instead of actually doing the snacking thing, come on here every day and post your detailed "meal plan". It's strange isn't it, but focussing on food in this way and actually planning my meals out has certainly helped me to lose weight. I've shed almost 2 stones in 2 months. I have another 2 and a half stones to go, and I am convinced I will get there!

I’m not a medical expert, but I’ve no doubt whatsoever that losing weight, if you are overweight, can have some real beneficial effects. For one thing the stresses and strains on the body are reduced because it is not having to support as much excess weight or propel it around.

I think the key is to find the right sort of exercise to suit the individual’s ability and then to combine that with a healthy diet/lifestyle.

I notice that you mention that you go swimming occasionally. I understand that can be great exercise, because the body is doing work without being unduly stressed as it is fully supported by the water. We do have marathon runners amongst our numbers here, but more typically the majority do much gentler exercises such as walking or exercise machines etc. There’s bound to be something that would suit you! Just start gently and don’t overdo it. It is a well known fact that exercise can lift people's moods too. o/

Often the hardest thing about dieting is taking the decision to make a start. You seem to have done that already. So, you just need to do the easy and enjoyable bit now – which is to visit here and talk to us about how much weight you want to lose, what changes you are going to make to your eating habits, and lifestyle and what goals you'd like to achieve!!

I can almost see the weight dropping off you as we talk ;) :D

Great idea Rawr - should be a great way of highlighting areas where improvements can be made. o/

Hey - that's fantastic! Well done for that Biggins!! o/ Sometimes its hard to keep track of an individual's total weight loss when they don't have a weight loss ticker thingy in their signature.
Ms Thrifty wrote:Now I, too, can claim to be a cyclist, albeit a short-lived one and not in Preston's league: OH and I (with much nudging from me) rented bikes for our week away and I practically lived in the saddle, which was great in itself and made a refreshing change from walking. Lovely to have the breeze so as not to get too hot and to be able to get around much faster. I'd love to know how many miles I clocked up and wish it were safe to cycle at home so it could be more than a holiday activity.

Only downside is that my back seems to be stuck in cycling mode so now I need the osteopath to unjam me...
Welcome back Ms T - I was wondering where you were, and it's great to hear that you did some cycling. o/ I'm pretty much hooked on it now - it's a great way to take exercise, and you can make it as gentle or demanding as you like. I sometimes chuck the bike in the back of my car and transport it to the countryside where the roads are much quieter and cycling is safer. Would that be a possibility for you?

We've seen the "before" photo of you Moonface! - any chance of putting up an "after" shot now you've shed a stone? We could all do a poll to comment on your "hotness". No pressure mind - only if you'd like, of course. ;) ............What?.... :D

4) Earl Grey Tea with lemon Two slices of Toast with Ardennes pâté (270 cals)
