Ms Thrifty will appreciate the walking :)
Think it's so rude of people just not to turn up - clearly the snow means some people forget their manners. Is there any way of calling to confirm appointments? A pain I know but at least you know that way.
For more reasons than one I'm glad the weekend is almost upon us!
Am now off to trek up the icy hill. It's so pitifully short (if a tad steep) that it really bugs me how hard it is to get up or down it! Have safe journeys home everyone!

Good Luck with your journey, I only have 20 mins a patient so time is limited to treat patients safely, you never know we might get clerical support one day!
Safe driving everyone!

I just saw a fox stroll through the snow in our car park, they have no fear!

I have a fox that appears to be treating my garden as its home! He politely sits there and watches us watching him!

I'm only worried about the cat going out there though!

I'm very grateful to have the option of commuting by public transport (on those days when it is running) instead of driving while it's snowy, but it's costing me a fortune! Not to mention how much longer it takes and how cold I get, even with umpteen layers. Good thing I'm saving on going out, as Cortone noted.

We don't really have that luxury in rural parts of County Durham. They are running very few bus services because the roads can't be cleared quickly enough before the next blizzard. A lot of us are now housebound. Local shops are not getting deliveries either. Fortunately, my husband drove me to Tesco last night and we stocked up on essential supplies. I feel if this goes on for much longer, there are going to be some poor souls who find themselves in a very sorry state. The police in County Durham are now co-ordinating the emergency services, and making sure that the ambulances can get through, and meals on wheels can be delivered to the elderly etc.

I don't think we cope so well down south: buses and trains have been generally erratic or non-existent on the worst days: I think I was lucky today as the current snowfall hadn't really accumulated sufficiently to cause trouble. But I don't fancy my chances from tomorrow onwards. As for the post - we live 10 minutes' walk from the sorting office but today is the 4th consecutive day on which we've had no delivery whatsoever, and the same thing happened for the 3 days leading up to Xmas. I can understand rounds having to be cut out or consolidated, but you'd think Royal Mail would share the misery around! My OH managed to get all the way to Newcastle on Tuesday with less than an hour's delay and all the way back to London next day, bang on time. But it was a different story when he tried to travel the last stretch home - 3 separate trains for what is normally a single journey, and he nearly had to spend the night on a station.

Ive had to get the train all week, after filling my car with Diesel on Monday, i now have to fork out £6 a day on travel lol, what a faff.
However, there was an issue with the staff at the station not gritting or clearng the stairways to transport connections, and i fell flat on my backside lastnight, which at the time was amusing, i am now in agony but cant afford to stay off work, because a) i have an interview on monday, b) we dont get pa*d sick and c) theres too much work to do :)
alas, i've had to cancel tonights barbecue ;) hehe

Poor you anjirose, I do hope you feel better have a nice warm bath and keep warm. I've just spotted a mountain rescue ambulance in Stockport on a mission. I can't stress enough the benefits of hiking poles, they only cost £10 and are brilliant.
My new boiler has been fitted today so I've heating and hot water so very happy :D

I considered going to the supermarket by train today, and then when I checked, I found the next train was cancelled, so I gave up on that idea.

I was planning to go to Precious in York tomorrow, and checked the trains for tomorrow morning, and there is none until after 10 - don't think this is normal. So that option has been ruled out. I'll have to see what the roads are like.

I spent ages trying to get my car dug out of its igloo - it is covered front, back side and top, in snow. I thought I'd try and get some of the snow off the car, and maybe allow myself to get some chance of getting out to go to Precious. Neighbours kept coming by to help - especially the 'oldies' ( 80 year olds!). I only wanted to do was heat the car up and defrost the snow that was 'glued' to the car. They clearly thought this was a bad use of petrol, and thought it a bit bizarre when I was not going anywhere.

The snow plough came by, and clearly wanted to put more snow by my car. I stared them out, and of course, they did not put grit on the road, so another neighbour, who thought they could go out now that the snow plough had been, was skidding all over the road. Wonderful!
