I got to 40 lengths, & the last 10 felt so easy - I could have continued after 50 but thought I should stop as I didn't want to overdo it (sometimes the Fibro pain comes later on, if I've overdone it with the exercise). So I did 40 minutes swim in total, & before that I did a 25 minute power walk from my flat to the gym :-) all in all a good day.......shame about the weather though!!
WOW!!!!! very impressive!!!

Well done Valda!!

Went for a walk today seen as it was dry for a change. Going swimming with the grandchildren tomorrow. The girls are only 7 and 8 years old but excellent swimmers so will have a hard time keeping up with them.

Welcome back Diane - your holiday food doesn't sound so bad - you were on holiday after all! And thank you for your good wishes! BTW, I too have to unpack as soon as I get back... even if it's just to leave it in the washing basket....! Although we differ on the marmite stance. :X

Well done Valda - a great result! Keep it up!

Also well done ClareBarr - what a lot of swimming!!! Popcorn isn't that bad for you if you make it yourself and don't salt it or add sugar. Not as fun, but a reasonably good snack!

Aha! I've just read this article - Now I know why I am having a tough job shifting the weight!

We mostly get our vitamin D by exposure to the sun, and these days, who just goes out in the sun? (andrews asks "What sun? Where is it?") So there’s been a lot of attention given to — and confusion over — vitamin D supplements, something many doctors recommend.

Now there’s a new study a possible vitamin D benefit: In a group of women older than 65 who had gained weight over 4½ years, those whose levels of the vitamin were low had gained a little more weight, researchers found in a study published Monday. (andrews is not over 65, there's a blow - thought I had a good excuse.)The study adds to the conversation about vitamin D, but the researchers say more study is needed about any possible connection between weight and vitamin D.

“This is one of the first studies to show that women with low levels of vitamin D gain more weight, and although it was only 2 pounds, over time that can add up,” said Erin LeBlanc, the author of the study and an endocrinologist and researcher at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore.

LeBlanc's study was published online in the Journal of Women’s Health.

A second study about vitamin D was published Monday and perhaps adds to the confusion over what people ought to do. A Loyola University Chicago School of Medicine study of two new tests for vitamin D found they are often inaccurate.

Last year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concluded that vitamin D levels in most Americans are adequate.

The Oregon study looked at 4,659 women over 4½ years. Of the women who lost weight or maintained a stable weight, the researchers said there was no association with vitamin D levels.

But among the 571 women who gained more than 5% of their body weight, low vitamin D levels seemed to make a difference.

“We would need to do more studies before recommending the supplements to keep people from gaining weight,” LeBlanc said in a statement. “Since there are so many conflicting recommendations about taking vitamin D for any reason, it’s best if patients get advice from their own healthcare provider.”

Evolution and history may be somewhat to blame.

The researchers noted that it’s possible that decreased sun exposure in fall and winter could trigger the body to increase fat storage for the winter. “As modern societies move indoors, we propose that decreased sunlight exposure leads to chronic [vitamin D] insufficiency and subsequent weight gain year round (not just seasonally),” they wrote.

In the vitamin D tests study, the researchers looked at two tests approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration and how they did with 163 random blood samples. In 40% of one and 48% of the other test, the results were at least 25% too high or too low, they said in their study presented at an annual meeting in Houston called ENDO.

Vitamin D tests are among the most frequently ordered tests.

(Need more Vitamin D, more sunshine, OK - less food.)

Interesting!! As I go out in the sunshine (so to speak) everyday come rain or shine and I'm under 65 I cannot use this as a reason for my weight and as you've seen me in action with the cakes at afternoon tea I think you can guess the reason for my curves

Good morning everyone.

I've got a whole day of work with nothing planned as I thought that I would need to catch up after my holidays - with what exactly I have no idea  and I cannot physically rest any more than I did last week and how long can it take to catch up with holiday ironing? I've now got a challenging day ahead food wise; I'm heading off to Ikea shortly to b*y a quilt for my new bed as I hardly spent any money on holiday (there was nothing to b*y - do I really want a Tee shirt with Crete emblazoned across my chest :shifty: ) and I have a voucher for £15 off from the free home show last month. I know I'm going on  I was just checking out the calories in the meat balls and the Punchroll which I normally have for lunch but as they come to 900 calories 8O I will have to watch my daughter eat hers and then come home for a sandwich :noo: I'm visiting my friend this afternoon who's off ill from work and as she used to be a ballet dancer I look like a lumberjack next to her so that will keep me on the straight and narrow.

Menu of the day:
Smoothie with bananas and strawberries (250 calories)
Ham salad sandwich and a weight watchers fromage frais (350 calories)
Vegetable curry, wholegrain rice (350 calories) Jelly, strawberries and ice cream with grated chocolate (150 calories)
100 calories to spare :D

I will do a brisk 4 mile walk sometime today - Is it just me but when I have so much free time I faff around rather than getting things done

Have a good swim Biggins and I hope that everyone else has a fun day too o/
