Re: Avatar
oops, yea I meant the 2D version

Re: Avatar
Saw the 3D version last week with my lesser half (!!). I thoroughly enjoyed it - effects were amazing and certainly made the film for me and also enjoyed the story. Especially enjoyed looking at Sam Worthington (in human and Avatar form!!). My other half liked the effects but was not too impressed with the storyline. It was worth waiting for a day off work to go and see it without a hoard of teenagers although there was a girl who was certainly under 12 with her dad who was coughing like crazy (obviously had a day off sick and her dad didn't know what to do with her!!). What also didn't help was that he was reading the subtitles to her - thankfully not too loudly!!

Re: Avatar
Finally decided to see this today since it's Cheap Tuesday at Vue (yippee).
I saw the 20 minute preview back in the summer and hadn't been taken by it and nor was my sci-fi mad pal I took with me, but decided to see for myself.
I'm not generally keen on sci-fi so for me it was an average story-line and I think maybe the gimicks and some of the 3D got in the way of beefing up the story in some parts.
The 3D scenery was amazing and the flight scenes in particular were spectacular.
I've not read all 16 pages of comments on here so I'm sure I'm not with the majority.
By the end though I had motion sickness (like being stuck on a stuffy old bus for three hours) and a headache. It's taken the hour since I left the cinema and got home to return to feeling normal. I know that I'm in a minority but from what I've read that was a minor reaction compared to some who have actually been sick and had to leave.
It was a decent enough film but I will be in the minority by saying I don't believe or get the hype, but hey that's why all us humans are different and that's healthy. I'm sure I've loved films that folk who loved this hated with a vengence or just thought were ok which is where I lie with Avatar. it was Ok.

Absolutely loved this film - didn't want it to end or even leave the cinema afterwards!

Re: Avatar
Finally went to see Avatar. I still had the odeon vouchers from the time that we were turned away at the screening of Dorian Gray, but thought they couldn't be used for a 3D screening. Yesterday I realised that this was not the case, so I decided to take my bf to see avatar (he was dying to watch it in 3D but he wasn't willing to p*y for it).
I actually enjoyed the movie, and my bf loved it. Granted, the storyline is extremely predictable. But the scenary, especially the forest, was just amazing. Also, I wish I could have a 3D screen like those in the movie. It would be so useful for my work.

Re: Avatar
I'm a bit divided with this movie.
After having seen the 15 minutes preview, I wrongly envisioned a different type of movie all together.
Don't get me wrong, I did like it, but I was slightly disappointed when presented with a somewhat weak instead of convoluted story that I had expected to be engrossed by.
I did route for the characters near the end, but continually getting pulled back and forth made me feel as flat as the avatars when the plug was pulled.
Although I did manage to keep my enthusiasm inflated to watch the entire movie, without dozing off, it all seemed a tad predictable and lacklustre.
The ending fared well - with the promise of a sequel? Hopefully, then one with a more thought out plot than the first.
The visuals were stunning, though. The colour vibrant. Yes, I had entered the world of Pandora, but my journey there seemed to stop short of a tree - then crashed and burned. I would, however, like the chance to explore the place at little better next time. More in-depth and more involved.

Re: Avatar
May I ask which cinema you managed to use your Dorian Gray Odeon vouchers in ucakpam? I tried at Greenwich and they told me I couldn't watch Avatar 3D with the voucher (ended up just p*ying to see it at the IMAX using Orange Weds instead). I want to see Alice in 3D so I want to give the voucher another go if possible.ucakpam wrote:Finally went to see Avatar. Re: Avatar
^^Yep you can! I used it at Greenwich IMAX in Jan.
Not 100% about BFI Imax though - for the blockbusters they get quite booked up these days so it is practically impossible to expect to get a (good) seat on the same day. You have to pre-book which effectively takes Orange Weds out of the equation.
