I feel dirty to have to confess this but....*gulp*....I braved this tonight at the West End Vue.
As much as I love Anna Kendrick, a movie about an all-girls singing accappella group just couldn't possibly be any good...could it?
Well, guess what...not only was it not bad, it was probably the most fun I've had all year at the cinema so far.

Yeah, you read that right! This stone-hearted bastard watched this movie and enjoyed the hell out of it, all the proof in a massive smile that never wavered for a second of its 112 minute runtime.
Pitch Perfect is funny, witty, charming, occasionally gross and really just a pitch perfect blast, thanks in great part to 30 Rock writing veteran Kay Cannon.
I dare anyone to write up a review for this gem without using the word "fun". And while its likely to be compared to Glee, it's much closer in tone, dialogue and intelligence to 2004's Mean Girls.
Overall, glad I went! Enjoyed it thoroughly and highly recommend you do the same - especially if you're in desperate need of a pick-me-upper, as I was.
PS 1,000 points to the amazing sound system at the VUE.
PPS. There were complimentary burritos and drinks.

Actually bad is the wrong word, you couldn't use that for this film, it was undoubtedly fun but did people not feel it's a bit samey?

Definitely agree on that but I think the whimsical characterisations and the gags helped liven up the (highly expected) staleness of the plot.

Sure seemed to be. I came in at exactly 18h55 (hence why I was able to sidestep the form signing) but as I came up the escalators, a waitress was standing there with a tray full of foil-wrapped burritos. There were also people walking around with martini glasses and others with little sealed cups of something colourful. Juice maybe?
