Anyhoo I went to see this morning in GFT. Lovely Glasgow independent cinema which I think is the very first time they done a preview. No rush to anything. Doors were locked till 10:15 though SKY girl managed to get around 10:00 when the manager turned up. A very disappointed turnout with only about 30 people in total including a young girl who couldn't be more than 10 with her mom and the most noisiest snacks ever. Sat with friends and Ploggit and Karenlg.

The film was rather disappointing. It's a story of two teenage girls and their friendship told in Ginger's perspective and set in the mid 1960's. However the film never go faster than second gear in particular the first half. I thought it was pretty hard going. And when you strip the story there isn't much to it. Definitely an Indie film which doesn't look out of place in the GFT.

I have been to a few previews at GTF although one was a test screening.
No Ginger at Edinburgh today as they couldn't find the key to the screening room at Edinburgh Filmhouse! Definitely a first time preview there. Probably a last as well. SKY did provide us with free barrista coffee while we waited and when it looked less likely I bailed (with my voucher) to see Beasts along the road at Cameo.
Cameo was like a furnace having just finished showing a 5 movie All Night Horror Fest.

So no verdict on Ginger from Edinburgh previewers. Still hopeful for another chance to catch it before release on 19th.

Exactly as Yinster says. I watched it at a rather empty Cornerhouse cinema in Manchester along with akh43, yogi and OH plus my DD. When stripped back to analyse it the acting was extremely good especially by Elle Fanning. 6/10

Not that impressed and certainly not entertained. One of those films where I was left wondering why the assembled cast and crew bothered to waste their time making it in the firstplace.

Accents were slightly annoying.... I felt Elle Fanning almost slipped into Queen Amidala territory; Christina Hendricks too, although her I can forgive almost anything! 4/10.

I read online reviews earlier, i.e. not here, and cancelled mine... I can always catch the film at a more convenient time and location on its release, should the view have changed by then.

It was good to go to the Cornerhouse again, I hope that becomes a regular preview venue and it was good to see Diane65 and akh43, but that was about it for the plus points.

It was very dull and took itself ever so seriously and some of the acting seemed very mannered and stagey. I presume it was directed that way as the cast was top quality.

One to catch on Film4 maybe, but hide the remote to make sure you make it to the end!

not sure i saw same film as rest of you.

simple story told extremely well. some of the best pure film-making i have seen in a long time.

Saw this at W12, I agree with you completely...it was a pile of tosh, such a waste of a good cast!

The movie was slow. The plot virtually non existent. However, I thought it was quite watchable. It did seem to me to be more like a BBC tv drama rather than a cinema experience, but as a Sunday morning outing to the GFT it was fine. Most entertaining part of the morning was pre movie chat with Yinster and co!
