Didn't realise this film is French and call De rouille et d'os. Best not tell OH this till we sit down to see it on Monday.

Yep! It's all in foreign....with words to read! Well amost all - Sam and OP are in English!
What a great film and again a complete surprise for me. It is a nice well rounded story with good acting, excellent character development and whoa! - what a sudden surge of emotion! I really felt as if the floor had suddenly sunk at one point. Also a similar water based event earlier on also is a shock.

How cute is Sam? I want a Sam!

How different a Times audience is to say a SKY one. Definitely a higher average age, but one would expect impeccable behaviour too, and not the conversations I heard tonight in Edinburgh that were not even attempts at stage whispers. Lol. A couple of times I was suddenly right back in a cinema again, and not in the movie any more.

An easy 8/10 for me.

I too loved this at a full Didsbury screening. All characters very likeable and I too wasn't expecting another "surge of emotion", kept me interested from start to finish. 8/10 from me also (I'm not just copying stuartboy but exactly as he says is how I felt).

Being a bit critical now but its unusual to have a mid knee amputation and then manage to walk 2 days after having a prosthesis let alone 2 fitted is a miracle.

Lovely to see yogi and Betty Botter once again.

Didn't realise until the film started that it was subtitled but a very enjoyable film with some gory scenes.


We were all behaved folk and no talking up at the back of the cinema where we were sitting SB.

Agree it was 8/10.

Enjoyed this too. The Times audience is different to the usual, but a good mix. It was quiet stage right too!!

Great acting and a good engaging story.

Saw this in Glasgow. Not sure what I made of the film. Had it in my head we were going to see a film about whales but they weren't the main factor in the film at all. Also didn't quite understand why the two leads had the friendship they had as they barely knew each other. And OH is convince every French film has sex in it. Forgot to say I loved her tattoos that she got after the accident. [spoiler]gauche (left) and droite (right)[/spoiler]


It gets a higher score than Ginger and Rosa as it didn't feel as long. 6/10

Saw this tonight at Cineworld West India Quays. The age group was definitely older but there was an annoying old couple behind me who just had to keep on whispering during the quiet emotional scenes which really put me off.

I have to say that this was a really watchable film with two great leads. Like Yinster I could not get my head my head around why the two leads would be so attracted to each other. Only the French could make such a conceited film and get away with it where a Killer Whale trainer falls for a mixed martial arts fighter. Worlds really do collide. The fight scenes were bone crunching and quite brutal. Nothing really happens in the film but you are compelled to see what happens. In the final third of the film there is a scene that is set up between father and son reunion that you know it is not going to end well.

This was a much better film than "Beasts of the Southern Wild." For a 2 hr film it did not feel it was that long.

If you don't mind subtitles this a definite go see.

Like biggins, I hadn't realised this was a French film with subtitles until we were sitting in the cinema --- not a problem though!
I did find the film overly long and think it could have been serialised instead of one viewing!
I thought the main theme was to do with the father & son relationship but there were multiple themes, and at various points I thought we could have been watching separate films.
[spoiler]eg Sam was pretty much "dumped" while we had the story of Stephanie being disabled and then coping with disability. Then we had the story of bare-knuckle fighting. Then the story of employers "observing" employees . . . and so it went on![/spoiler]
I can't say I didn't enjoy the film but I'm afraid it didn't quite work for me.
