I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. It's of course very French in that there is a lot of nudity and shagging in it and the attempt to make the message very deep. Not everything worked for me, for example I don't like whale shows like that or fighting where you really get hurt, and I didn't like the guy at first for the stupid remark he made about her outfit and for how he behaved towards his son. He grew on me although I am not quite sure what she saw in him and why she phoned him after the accident. Her former boyfriend was also never mentioned again after the accident like it didn't matter what happened there. There were too many plots, from his relationship to his son to his illegal snooping job to her accident and rehabilitation to his fights etc etc. but all in all it's much better than other films I have seen recently so I'll give it an 8/10.

Nice to see hdaniel82 on the way out.

P.S. Audience at WIQ largely behaved but I think I know which couple tsoiboy meant - someone turned round to them a couple of times so that must have been you.

Yes, it was me. Giving my strong but silent stare...it worked eventually. ;)

Strange film with lots of themes but a nice ending. Now a fan of Matthias Schoenaerts from his film Bullhead a couple of years ago - really liked his "confused" personality in this movie. Story really drew me in and i forgot i was reading subtitles.

9/10

Also most impressed with the SFX with Marion Cottillard - Stephanie. How realistic was that! I seriously had to Google her to confirm whether she really had any disability or not. I was convinced. Full marks.

I saw this at Wood Green this week. I thought the performances were all good but I found it hard to engage with the story -- a bit too far fetched for me. Still I was glad to see it in spite of it taking ages to get to Wood Green with a long diversion that showed me areas of North London I had never seen before.

Forgot to add that we were given a Times leaflet about the film before we went in - really informative and nice to have something to read.

Snap! though I wasn't able to read it before the film as lighting poor in cinema!

I found those screening notes unintenionally hilarious, especially the last paragraph of the story and the director's note.

I too was most impressed. I've heard of actors growing a beard or putting on a few pounds but I thought it was going a bit far :bwl: . It was really convincing and well done.

As this is out today, I thought I'd do a proper review (I'm struggling to break free from the weigh of a stupid amount of reviews to write thanks to LFF).

http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/11/02/rust-and-bone/

I wish I had enjoyed it as much as others seemed to (especially that one couple during a festival screening of it).
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
