funthing29 wrote:I found this a weak addition to the Bond franchise. It is long (143 minutes) and boy does it feel long. It has a strong opening but the rest of the film doesn't really live up to it. It has nothing memorable about it, no spectacular action sequence, no great one liners or humour, no proper Bond girl and the villain seemed a bit ridiculous, without a properly developed backstory. Naomi Harris seemed to be trying too hard. The best performance came from Dench whilst Craig seemed to be going through the motions.
It was amusing to see James Bond use public transport for once but during the sequence on the underground, I couldn't help thinking that it is not a true depiction since London rush hour is so much busier!
An improvement on Quantum of Solace but a step down from Casino Royale.

7/10
I'll just copy that as it pretty much summarises my feelings about Skyfall. I even gave it the same 7/10.
Although I think Craig was not as bad as he usually is; he was still very stiff but not too unpleasant this time!

I think it had me when the MGM Lion roared its loudest roar "I aint dead m****f*****s" (sorry I'm referring to the near death of MGM causing this long delay between bond films). Its not the best Bond, nor is it my favourite (which is OHMSS) but its still a great Bond movie. It does actually compare very much to OHMSS in that its more of personal journey type of film. Despite the recent in-thing for superhero movies to go the Nolanesque route (which while has been fantastic, will become stale very soon, if not already), this Bond still delivers the classic Bond traits and fun but rather spaced out in doses. But boy when it does, its done with LOVE baby. I love it when a bond surprise moment is accompanied by the wonderfully nostalgic Daaaaa Da motif. JB was the most deliciously camp bond villain I've seen since Tele Savalas's Blofeld. He was great, although he did strike a Ledger's Jokeresque tone, he was different enough to not be considered a rip-off. He was both funny, psychotic and justifiably highly motivated thanks to a splendid story which I hear is the biggest criticism but I beg to differ. I really liked the story. Its a clever encapsulation of everything about Bond and family. The characters had depth and were performed brilliantly. The opening is a tour de force of Bond doing what he does best with a relentless spectacle of setpieces and vintage stunt work rolling into the beautifully sultry voice of Adele's them song. This really is a an awesome 50 year tribute, somewhat bringing it full circle in a rather kaleidoscope manner. Its not without flaws, every bond movie has its flaws but as long as there is heart and soul put into the production, which this has in abundance, it has my total adoration and cheer.

I love all 6 generations of Bond films and a bit drunk with the film at the moment, therefore I cannot rank this amongst them, so its just down to how I feel right now...I feel like I want to see it again this weekend...So I think I'll give it 8.5/10ths of my loving.
Loved it.

I agree with a lot of the above, at times JB could have stepped straight out of Diamonds Are Forever!

I'm biased, I love Bond obviously classics like Goldfinger, Goldeneye, You Only Live Twice etc and even have have a soft spot for the camper Diamonds Are Forever and the more far fetched Moonraker, only Quantum of Solace and OHMSS leave me cold.

This is more like the character driven Casino Royale with a lighter touch at times (funny lines that never become quips) with plenty of action which isn't edited so it's incomprehensible and much less of the blatant product placement which has blighted previous films.

Basically it's great fun with a lot more 3 dimensional characters than a lot of the films and has some great nods to previous movies.

Bond lovers will love it, others may find fault which may be justified, but for 2 hours I didn't care -
I felt like a big kid again. o/

Saw this last night and with all the hype and anticipation surrounding this film I was worried if I was going to be disappointed.

As a film on itself. It was fine. The first hour went really quickly with a good opening sequence and great at setting the scene but then it lost it's momentum for the rest of the film. Javier Bardem is a great villain and very pantomime like when he was in charge but when his plans went awry then a seriousness came out in him as a person seeking revenge and retribution. Daniel Craig did a great job as usual. I was expecting more of a fight scene between Bond and Silva as they are cast from the same mold but unfortunately this never happened in the film. Judi Dench gave a solid performance. The other characters of Naomi Harris (Eve), Ben Wishall (Q) and Ralph Fiennes ( Mallory) were all good additions to the film. As an individual film it is good.

Now comes what I did not like about the film. There were too many references to the past films. When Daniel Craig came onboard for the Casino Royale film it was a re-boot and taking Bond in a grittier and more realistic world. Less on gadgets more on action. This continued in Quantum of Solace ( which I personally think is a great film). At the end of Casino Royale there was a mysterious Q organisation and again this continued with Quantum of Solace. My issue with this film is where it sits with the other films. The film that should have been made should have continued this thread on the Q organisation and concluded the trilogy of films. The next film after this should have been Skyfall. Skyfall works in setting Bond in a different but familiar direction again. Then all the references would have worked and sat well with me. Allowing the franchise to return back to more familiar territory. Skyfall has come one film too early and a different Bond film should have been made before this .

The Franchise has returned to it's old formula just one film too early.

I know I am being a bit picky and I did enjoy the film last night as I am a Bond fan.

Haven't watched The Terminator in a good 20 years but they released a blu ray few weeks ago, so I could not resist, it was my blu ray for the evening... You'd wonder what does that have to do with Skyfall, eh?

Now, I tell you "There is a storm coming". First the Terminator, then TDKR and now Skyfall... what is that? Tribute after tribute? Who's next?

This was just great fun, and with a great pace, apart from a few dips in the middle. Yes, some people will criticise some bits of the film, but other bits blew me (and the others with me, including Steve9872) away.

Loved it. And the others all said they wanted to see it again.

Barack Obama said it yesterday. Let's hope there are no casualties in New York and the rest of the East Coast.

Went with a friend to see it this afternoon. Wasn't sure if we would get in with free vouchers but the guy at the Odeon didn't bat a eye so we were pleased we didn't have to p*y.

Had to wait for the parent and baby screening to vacate before we could get in. They were so slow coming out that the film was ten minutes late in starting - so it is not just the free screenings that have problems.

I have never beeen a big Bond fan but enjoyed the film - plenty opf action but felt it was a bit too long and drawn out in the middle. Judi Dench was excellent in her part. 8/10
