Re: I Give It a Year
I was pleasantly surprised, wasn't expecting that much but the 'keith lemon' type humour did make me laugh. It was never going to be a film with a clever plot but the story plodded along just fine both main characters were equally annoying so all was good. Minnie Driver and Jason Flemyng were hilarious. I'd give it a 7/10, my friend guffawed through the whole film so I'll give it a 9/10 from her

Re: I Give It a Year
I have to agree with comment by jeanelle re laughing and cringing! Some bits were funny and others were awful!jeanelle wrote:I dragged myself (and OH) out into the cold this evening without any high expectation that I'd enjoy it but I found myself laughing out loud, along with some cringing of course!
Initially I was going to write they could have made it shorter and sharper but surprised to discover it was 1 hour 40 minutes but it did feel a lot longer. The start was ok but it did lose its way and then struggled . . . I must admit that I did think the character played by Stephen Merchant stole the show.
I saw this at Braehead which was the usual 95% full. Sat with Yinster + OH and teddybear 1 + OH.
Glad I hadn't pa*d but have seen worse! Marks 6/10

Oh dear, I was hoping the views here would help be choose between this and Song For Marion, which clash for me next week. The first few comments made me think I could ditch this one; then the ratings started to improve, so I'm still undecided...

Re: I Give It a Year
Edinburgh was full last night.
Found it bizarre that two of the leads were Australian but playing a brit and an American, respectively. Why? Might have been better if they'd been plating Australians!?
Stephen Merchant was OTT. I know he was meant to be but he was just way more OTT than the rest of them he stood out.
Female characters seemed a little underwritten and were so dull it was unbelievable.
The film itself was very funny in part and very dull in part.
Never going to set the heather on fire, but it wasn't awful.
6/10

Re: I Give It a Year
I was going to 'Give it half an hour', but it was refreshingly funny for a British romcom. Nowt great about it but a decent 7/10...............which is 7 more than the last British production I saw.................... the appalling Les Miserables

Re: I Give It a Year
A so-so comedy and I thought it was better than the trailer made it look.
The script doesn't have much depth and I found the characters quite shallow and not particularly likeable. It did have a few laugh out loud moments, but the comedy didn't always work, with over the top crudeness and some cringeworthy moments. It's no Bridesmaids but it is better than other recent efforts, such as The Knot or A Few Best Men. 5/10
I actually walked past Stephen Merchant on my way to the cinema at Finchley Road, and I am not sure if he was there for the screening or it was purely coincidence...
