Re: The Diary Room
Does anybody know of any place where one could b*y a cheap (and decent!) seat for Cirque du Soleil? I have missed out on the ISH events, but would still love to go. Thank you!

Re: The Diary Room
rant time: I wish I knew who the person running the "10 ways to save money as a student" page on facebook is, so that I could kick them out of fmuk. I can't even access showfilmfirst because the link to hitchcock was just posted on fbook and the influx must be crashing the site.

I think you need to register as Self Employed to get the UTR then register for online Self Assessment ??evilzadi wrote:Does anyone know how to fill in a self assessment form online? Re: The Diary Room
Thanks Rainey, I'm not sure if that would work for me. Thing is I'm doing it for my mum, who isn't self employed but she rents out a house.

Re: The Diary Room
If you have already registered as self employed it will be on the letter that they have sent to you requesting your tax returns above your address. You also need an activation code that you need to apply for asap as you can't fill it in until you have this, they send it to you by post. I've just filled mine in on Thursday and its very straight forward once you have logged on.Rainey wrote:I think you need to register as Self Employed to get the UTR then register for online Self Assessment ??evilzadi wrote:Does anyone know how to fill in a self assessment form online? Working out if you are self-employed
People who work for themselves are seen as as self-employed. This means that they have to register with HMRC and p*y their own tax and National Insurance contributions. To help you work out whether you are self-employed, here’s some pointers to help you.
You are likely to be regarded as self-employed if you answer yes to one or more of these questions:
Do you regularly work for a number of different people and require a business set up (for example invoicing for work you’ve done) in order to do so?
Can you hire someone to do the work, or take on helpers at your own expense?
Can you decide where to provide the services of the job, when to work, how to work and what to do?
Can you make a loss as well as a profit?
Do you agree to do a job for a fixed price regardless of how long the job may take?
Do you risk your own money?
Do you provide the main items of equipment (not the tools that many employees provide for themselves) needed to do the job?
Do you have to correct unsatisfactory work in your own time and at your own expense?
Do you receive rents or other income from land or property?
This is not a complete list and if you’re still unsure whether you need to p*y tax or not you can contact HMRC to find out.

Maybe try and ring tax office tomorrow, but as Diane65 say's you need the activation code before you can complete the form and this is sent by post and you need to complete form by end of January so don't have much time.

Re: The Diary Room
I got my activation code within the week and then it is really easy to fill in, if all your paperwork etc is up to date - it only took me 35 minutes to fill in mine including the payment but I'm really meticulous about my book keeping. If you're mum already works she will need her P60 etc, expenses she has been pa*d etc as it is classed as a second income (as mine is my second job I have no tax allowance as already used up in my NHS job) - I'm only telling you all this to save you time.Rainey wrote:I think they would count that as Self Employed Incomeevilzadi wrote:Thanks Rainey, I'm not sure if that would work for me.
