RickyRaj wrote:We had a herbalist/nutrionist visit our offices yesterday as part of a 'Health Week' campaign they are running here. I thought I would share some of his insights:

1. Get 7-8 hours sleep
2. Consume a balanced diet which should consist of:
-Water 1-2 litres a day (too much water drains nutrients from your body)
-Plants (fruit and veg)
-Oils (e.g. olive, fish etc)
-Lean proteins
-Complex Carbs
3. Eat like a King/Queen in the morning (don't skip breakfast ever), a Prince/Princess at lunchtime and a Pauper in the evening. This ensures you burn fat while you sleep whereas if you have a heavy meal it gets stored as fat.
4. No scientific proof eggs contribute to high cholesterol.
5. Exercise 4 times a week - he didn't say what sort of exercise but I think we can work this out ourselves.
6. Take good quality multi-vitamin supplements. Even if you eat everything listed in point 2 above you still miss out on certain minerals due to food storage/preparation methods, soil quality depreciation, food transportation delays etc

I spoke to my sister over the weekend about the above. She has a biological degree (in something) and is currently studying a second degree in herbal medicine. I specifically asked about points 4 & 6 and she agrees with the findings above.

Incidentally, she said as part of a balanced diet you should ensure you keep your PH balance in check by eating more alkaline foods to acidic foods as most peoples food intake tends to be acidic. Hope that's been useful o/

Oh good, I'm eating eggs for breakfast as much as I can as they are filling and are good calorie wise :) just started taking a multivitamin too. I've read a fair bit about alkali foods so will try to eat more of them!
Did my active fit workout with the help of my 3.5 year old son lol. 142 calories for 30 minutes is pretty good and I know it tones my lumps and bumps, do another one tomorrow and Tiffany workouts on my off days. I've also taken all my measurements as the weight thing can make me feel disheartened especially if I'm improving muscle tone.

I've lost 7lbs so far this year, which is great. HOwever, I'm still 2lb off the weight I was this time last year

I seem to have spent the year going down a bit, then going up a lot. Still I'm going in the right direction for now. vx

i had only had 500 calories all day before then, but still i'm pretty sure it was very naughty.

i've also not done exercise today, a bit of a walk around a few shops but nothing else.

please someone give me motivation to do better this weekend!
One curry won't ruin it for you so let that be your treat day and I hope that you enjoyed it. Right we will support each other and we have to do 2 different types of exercise this weekend, I know that it's too slippy to do a walk so it will have to be my exercise dvd one day and 2 of greece's workouts the other. Looking forward to hearing which workouts you are going to be doing.
I errr ummmm... I didn't do any over the weekend! 1st time all yeah I did nothing. Must do the bike for the whole of deal or no deal today hahaha. (minus adverys where i give my backside a rest from the horrible seat!)

I have just read The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce which is the story about a man who walks hundreds of miles to see a dying friend. Its a good read and worth the time but it also got me thinking about walking a distance in a day.

I'm up for walking but its just turning around and getting back :D

Took Charlie out for about an hour this morning while i mussed the idea o/

This had never even entered my head re thinking about PH balance in food  I do love eggs so will enjoy them even more.
I get carried away with my weighing and measuring that I quite often have to be pulled up re what I am actually eating, you've certainly got me thinking. Please feel free to point me in the right direction re my diet as I do tend to end up repeating my meals. As I had my purse stolen last week I have been living off cereal bars for the past few days as I had no cash and couldn't get to a bank but now have the cards replaced so can get shopping for fresh produce o/ Ii'm afraid that I haven't got a fitness pal thing so can't follow anyone but would love to if I could.
Well done Valda that is brilliant o/ Hope the lovely Charlie is enjoying his walks :D

Just been reading up on this and thought that I got a good balance of both about 60:40 alkali to acid until I read it should be 80:20  I take it I need to cut back on my bread and cereals  I do have plenty of the alkali but also plenty of the acidic  If your sister has any tips especially re the herbal side of things I would love to hear about them - I love seeing things from different perspectives (I basically like learning new things)
