Saw Imagine Dragons last night, got there just as the first song started as I was at the Beyond The Pines showing. Had a great night, really good sound and great songs. OH got there before me and saw a band called The Good Natured who she said were really good.

Over the past few weeks I have seen a few bands including:

Circle of Contempt + Red Seas Fire - Amazing show, loud and aggressive
James Taylor Quartet - Danced the night away to this one...Great funk and soul show from the master
The Leisure Society - Indie folk similar to Grizzly Bear, again amazing!

A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

I saw Pink tonight at The O2. Without any doubt the show was spectacular but she was at her best when she just sat with the lead guitarist and sang. For the majority of the gig the backing singers did the majority of the singing.
Maybe I was just expecting too much but I much preferred an intimate gig in Camden on Thursday by Open Mind.

I always prefer intimate gigs... I hate the 02 because it is too large!

Ahhhh.... Good to blow away the cobwebs every now and then...! :D

I'm slightly shattered but I promised pcRock a review of the Golden Gods awards last night, so here's a little bit of what happened.... (skip to the end if you want to know who won which award, etc.)

Few hundred of us lucky ticket winners assembled at Tower Hill just after 2pm to board Dixie Queen, our boat for the afternoon, a fine vessel re-named HMS Hammer for the day. Shortly after 3pm we set off, passing under the raised Tower Bridge and gently cruising down the Thames towards the O2 where the actual awards would be held. Thankfully the weather was lovely so we could relax up on deck with a few drinks, but in all the excitement somehow forgot to check what time the first band would be on....

So we only caught the last song by Heaven's Basement, sounded okay-ish, so I'll rate them 6/10. They were soon followed by The Defiled, a typical "modern" metal band the likes of which I'd rather avoid, they were having some technical difficulties with their backing track or whatever, but frankly they were boring, 2/10.

After a long wait at the bar where only one girl was serving (!) we had our first proper mosh pit of the day courtesy of New York hardcore mob Vision of Disorder. Sadly bands were only allowed a short 15 minute set each, so just as they got going, it was all over! I have vague recollections of seeing VOD at the Astoria in the 90s, they were good then, but were better yesterday... 8/10 for them.

Next up was Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica / Voivod, etc) with his new band simply called Newsted, they did two new tracks which sounded great (and better than anything Metallica have done in the last 20 years!), and finished off with a blistering version of Whiplash which received a roar of approval. 8/10.

Then the absolute highlight of the day for me... Norwegians Kvelertak! I've been hearing great things about them for a while, and they were just awesome. Do check them out. 10/10.

By that point we had reached the O2 and it was time to disembark and grab a bite to eat. This of course also meant grabbing some cheap beer from Tesco while we wait for the doors to Indigo to open. We sat on a park bench for a while (classy, eh?), and then out of nowhere various members of Kvelertak walk by (presumably on their way to their tour van?) They were nice enough to slow down and say hello, and graciously accept our praise... So extra points for being polite and humble! o/

The awards got going sometime around 7.30, and the first band to play were Coalchamber, a horrible flashback to 90s nu-metal, frankly they were awful as ever, no idea why they are here, 1/10. Go back to obscurity! Paradise Lost were a vast improvement but didn't really play their best stuff, although it was good to hear them do Black Sabbath's Into the Void... 6/10.

Later we had the stupidly named Five Finger Death Punch who were dreadful :X (one finger salute, 1/10), and the obvious AC/DC copy band Airbourne (points for energy and enthusiasm but they ain't no AC/DC... 7/10).

The main presenter for the evening was Devin Townsend, surprisingly he was really good, hilarious at times, though I'm not sure why he needed to have two girls in bikinis on stage, just standing about during award presentations...

Amongst many highlights, it was great to see Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi accepting the award for best UK band and best album (currently no.1 in the charts!), he got a great cheer from the crowd. Recently departed Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman was mentioned and it drew spontaneous "Sla-yer, Sla-yer..." chants from the audience, but the biggest cheer of the night by some distance went to "Spirit Of Hammer" winner Brian Blessed. He came on and said... "I just want to say....that... GORDON... IS... ALIVE!!!" and then "DON'T LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN!! ...NEVER! ...NEVER!!!", to which the crowd went mental. What a brilliant man!

The night was rounded off in fine style with the Golden Gods themselves, Motorhead, playing a short 25 minute set. What can you say about Motorhead except they play rock 'n' roll and they kick your ass. Always great to see them... 9/10.

And then it was over, we trundled out to join thousands of Neil Young fans coming out of the O2 Arena at the same time, travelling back on the tube was a bit of a squeeze to say the least!

Full list of winners: http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/metal ... e-winners/

So it was a good night, now I'll leave you with this little ditty from Kvelertak... (any fans on here?)

I love Kvelertak... they are a great band!

And I disagree with your review on 'The Defiled', having seen them before, I thought they were good!
