Looking ffwd to this, its amazing how different a Trailer can look and feel, with different background Music. Check the few different trailer versions on u tube.

Also looking towards a bit part from one of India's most famous Actors, Amitabh Bachchan...his filmography on imdb says it all...http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000821/. ...but finally made it to a mainstream American film

I cannot wait. No joke. This and Star Trek are my most anticipated films of the year, I was a mess when they were out on the same day, didn't know how I'd choose! Luckily now I don't have to, but if there aren't any screenings you can bet I'll be first in line at the cinema on the 17th.

Apparently its being released on the 16th in selected cinemas (Kensington Odeon, for example, but not Odeon Whiteley's). Having a dilemma. Part of me wants to book now before the general public wises up (already some seats taken for first show of the day on the 16th), but part of me wants to hold out and cross my fingers for a late freebie. Ah, what to do!

Thanks to ritamistry, we went to the press screening tonight at Odeon Leicester Square.

A good modern adaption of a great story, although well acted, sumptuous and visually stunning, the "old sport" bit drove me mad, and really jarred on me, and I did not feel DiCaprio was charismatic enough. Loved the costumes and opulence of the 20s though, and I really like the soundtrack. 7/10

I have not read the novel but found the original Great Gatsby (with Robert Redford) rather dull so I was not expecting much from the remake. It exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It is visually gorgeous: lavish, decadent and luxurious. I thought Di Caprio did quite well but found Mulligan and Maguire weak. Considering the story is told from Maguire's perspective, I found the narration rather bland and his performance underwhelming.

The direction is quite extravagant and works well in places and feels a bit OTT in others. I saw this in 2D but can see that some of the camerawork has been done with 3D effects in mind. Hardly the film of 2013 but neither was it the shambles I was expecting. The main failure, IMO, was the lack of chemistry between the leads. I felt no connection to Daisy and Gatsby's romance so the ending had no emotional impact. 7/10.

Not a story I've actually read/known before today, I enjoyed the grandiose spectacle Luhrman laid before us. Great 3D for the most part, gorgeous title design, decent-enough performances, Maguire and DiCaprio's chemistry being very strong, and whilst the music was silly when you see a brass band playing but hear dubstep, it was just right enough at being so odd that you can forgive it by feeling the experience of cinema in this case. Weird, yet not overtly so to an abstract point. Just fine.
