ok, so as promised to the lovely Diane65 (sorry about the delay D!) here is my next recipe :)

Moviemannn's student days chick pea and potato curry

This is an incredibly cheap and cheerful recipe that was perfect during my student days

Nowadays it serves as a quick , healthy , still cheap , easy to make and an amazingly tasty meal :)

Its one of those meals that will keep you full and satisfied for ages

So here goes

Ingredients

2-3 table spoons corn oil or olive oil,
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
1 tin of chick peas (drained)
1 small onion chopped , if you have big sized onions then use either half or even a quarter of it
1 cube of the frozen garlic (as per my previous recipes)
2 - 3 potatoes, peeled and cut up into small cubes (1 potatoe if its a very large one )
2 - 3 chillies chopped , deseeded first before chopping if you must (sighs :D )
half teaspoon cumin seeds
half teaspoon chilli powder
half teaspoon turmeric powder
three quarter teaspoon coriander powder
Salt - 1 teaspoon , or according to taste
lemon juice (optional)
Fresh chopped coriander (optional)

so , first of all, heat the pan (wok is ideal) and add the cumin seeds, once you get a lovely aroma add the oil and chopped onion, fry the onions until starts to soften then add the cube of garlic , its better with this recipe to zap the garlic cube in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds before hand to melt it as there is only a small amount of onion we are using for this recipe and the onions may start to stick before the garlic melts ,

Now, once the garlic has been added to the onions keep mixing until it blends together and the whole mix starts to turn a golden brown, add the chopped chillies, give it a good mix then add the whole tomato tin, with the tomato tin if you have time and can be bothered with the extra washing up then whizz the contents of the tomato tin in a blender before adding, this will give it a smooth texture and will prevent big tomato bits in the curry (unless you like tomato bits in that case then no point in whizzing) .

So, in with the tomatoes, now stir and add the spices (turmeric, chilli, corainder powders) now keep stirring the whole sauce untill it all comes together and the oil begins to show at the top, its important to cook the sauce properly so dont rush this and try to do it over a medium heat.

Now add the drained contents of the chick peas and also add the cubed potatoes, add salt according to taste (i would go for 1 teaspoon) , give a good stir , add water according to how you prefer, if you want a thick sauce then add tiny bit or even no water, if you want a thinner sauce then add half a glass of water or less , i would not add more than half a galss of water as it will become too runny.

After this then cover the wok or pot with the lid turn the heat right down on the minimum setting and let it cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, the potatoes should be nicely done by this time and not be hard or too soft , use a fork to check the potatoes before switching the heat off. Once its all done , add dash of lemon juice over the curry and add the fresh chopped coriander to garnish .

Serve with boiled basmati rice.

Nutritious, easy, quick, healthy and DELICIOUS :)

Also, like my previous recipes, there is a lot to read but thats only because ive gone into a lot of detail so the recipe may appear overwhelming, but trust me and ask Diane65 the recipes are not difficult at all, its just onions garlic tomato and spices fried , add the chick peas and potaoes and salt , cover and cook on low heat, garnish :) Reeeeaaallllllly simple :)

Hope you enjoy it !

Thank you so much for your fab recipe Moviemann and I know what I'm having for dinner tomorrow o/

Moggers don't get disheartened and as the gentleman say its the body fat that counts but I do get that us girls like to see the scales going down. Well done John Milton on the steady weight loss that is just perfect o/ Have you ordered the DVD Baty?

I b*ght so much meat free dishes that I am still on the humous for lunch - the last one :cheer: I will go for a brisk walk this evening and be doing the DVD over the weekend as like Moggers time is ticking away for our holidays

I'm addicted to the spicy humous lol!! The jalepeno one and the harissa one are delicious. Taking moviemann's recipe list shopping tomorrow! If we have a bbq for father's day I'll make the curry for my mum. Gym and vibro plate today, put the cross trainer up a level and burnt nearly 100 calories more than usual! Weird but true but needed as I was naughty and had a Greggs thai chicken sandwich for lunch, oh it was good!!
Potato wedges and veggie nuggets for dinner with some hot sauce.

That's great mogz, hope it turns out well! The frozen garlic cubes will be in the Asian section of the freezer if your supermarket has this, If you can't find the frozen garlic cubes then just use fresh garlic, chop or slice it fine and use about a level tablespoons worth :) the frozen garlic is sooooo much more convenient though and is really useful for so many other dishes too so it will be great if you find it :)

I use the frozen chilli and garlic already! I hate the smell of mince cooking so always add them to it when I make bolognese or chilli. Just in the usual frozen veg bit in our tesco.
