The Conjuring
The Conjuring
This new offering by James Wan looks promising....looks like a cross between the Amityville Horror and Poltergeist. Hopefully it will be a lot more frightening than Insidious.

Re: The Conjuring
And a little bit of the exorcist! Saw this at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The Conjuring tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, world renowned paranormal investigators called to help a family terrorised by a dark presence!
The cast were brilliant, especially Vera Farmiga. It definitely had the scare factor and I quite enjoyed the film! Much better than insidious. Would recommend it....are you brave enough? 8/10

Re: The Conjuring
Thanks for the heads up on this movie. I caught the trailer tonight when watching Citadel. I think the purse moths will be swirling about a bit more this summer (I've already pa*d loads on NT tickets which I can't seem to get enough of).
Re: The Conjuring
Ohhh I thought I might have missed this while I was away, saw (a different) trailer for it a lot over in the US, prefer theirs to the one we have but I still want to give this a watch!

Re: The Conjuring
My friend has text me from the screening in Leicester Square. Apparently they didn't open to doors until 6.30 to start at 7. Now they've delayed it again until 7.30.
They've been given free beer, water, popcorn... and a torch?!?

Best. Screening. Ever.
Hello all,
I'm sitting in in the West End Odeon waiting for the Conjuring to start...
Freebies (other than the movie):
2x goodie bag consisting of:
A bottle of water
A torch
A mirror (promo backed)
Popcorn
And thus far we've had 8 bottles of Budweiser!
What freebies have you had at a screening?

Re: The Conjuring
It was always meant to start at 7:30, they just didn't make that clear to SFF ticketholders, only comp winners, and only the ones that e-mailed you separately to tell you you had won (ie. The Sun).
I won't be sleeping tonight. That is my review. Gah! Might use my new torch as a nightlight!

Re: The Conjuring
Email confirmation was 6.30 for 7.30 but as all SFF tickets (regardless where they were from, Heat, KissFM, Sun, or Skymovies) all says 6.30, the norm is to turn up at 6pm, when I did there was already a massive queue snaking outside Odeon West End.
Managed to hook up with valda and caitlinmorton in the queue so time went quite quickly. valda went to find out what time the screening started, and it was confirmed 7.30pm. The doors did open prompt at 6.30 and we were told beers upstairs, screening downstairs. They were also interviewing people in the lobby. After making sure we bagged our seats, I went upstairs to fetch some beers, and valda did the same, so we had double! I saved ritamistry seats for her and her OH and we all had a good natter waiting for the screening to start, stuffing our faces with the free popcorn from the goody bag, which also had a small mirror, and a really good torch. There was also bottles of water at our seats.
It was packed and at 7pm, we were told that at 7.20 the director will introduce the film and the film will start and so we should use the time before to get beers and use the loos! At half past, the lights went down and a recording of the director, James Wan, was shown, introducing the film.
I really enjoyed this.
Really not at all scary as it is made out to be, probably because everyone around me was tittering quite a lot, when obviously a scary bit was about to come up! And so many people getting up to go to the loo, bad idea sometimes with all the free beers! Did not feel there were too much sinister music or jumps scares. Not as creepy as I was expecting. It was really well acted, well scripted, and what a great story, well told. 9/10

Re: The Conjuring
never a good idea to give out free beers, having said that I had to go to the loo, not on my own though I was pretty jumpy and really wanted to leave I'm a sucker for those loud bangs and music! My main problem was the fact that I live on my own so the real scary time is when I go to bed
Lovely to meet up with PXC and finally meet Caitlinmoran.
btw did any of you see the rocking chair when you left?
edit to add rating 7/10 for wusses like me
