Lovelace

Well Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard turned up ever so briefly to introduce the film at the Mayfair Hotel tonight. Thanks ritamistry for taking me along. Nice to catch up with funthing too.

Unfortunately they hovered around the doorway rather than coming directly into the screening room to do so, but I did manage to somehow get a good shot.

The film was really two films, to show two sides to the story. I did not know anything about Linda Lovelace except that she was famous for being a porn star. Apparently there are several versions of her story, although in the film, she is seen taking a lie detector test. Sharon Stone was unrecognisable. The abuse by Peter Sarsgaard was brutal. I thought Amanda Seyfried, played Lovelace too innocently, not what I imagined Lovelace to be like. James Franco pops up everywhere. A compelling "based on true story", but quite sad life story. 7/10

I saw this a few months back at the Berlinale. Really enjoyed this, thought it was a great story and well told and (surprisingly) well cast. Sharon Stone was completely unrecognizable and I thought Franco as Hugh Heffner was genius. Peter Saarsgard is an incredibly talented, yet underrated actor, something which he shows time and time again. Loved him in this. Also enjoyed Adam Brody in his role, offbeat and hilarious.

All in all really enjoyed this and glad its finally seeing the light of day!

What a wasted opportunity this was. A lot of time spent on a young Linda in which Seyfried was credible as naive and inexperienced but once we forwarded to scenes with the older Linda, the story and Seyfried crumbed. She couldn't cope with playing a tough, older Linda and this was blatantly obvious in the interview at the end. The script was too biased towards a younger Linda and the film ended abruptly once we skipped to her 6 years later. It hit the wrong tone IMO, not harsh or brutal enough (the violence did feel glossed over at times) nor did I feel emotional or sad watching it. 6/10.

Back from seeing this in a pretty empty cinema. Felt like we were actually sitting in a porn film theatre with people scattered about.

Knew nothing about Lovelace before but had heard of Deep throat. It was an interesting view of what happen to her and liked how the story showed the hidden scenes. Pity that even though it was an 18 they didn't show the abuse as much but hinted at it more. Didn't realise the amount of stars in this.

Ha ha that was my thoughts exactly when I walked into the half empty Manchester screening, I half expected to see Robert De Niro and Cybil Shepherd sat next to me!

I thought the film was good and liked the technique of replaying scenes and showing what supposedly really happened. I also thought the balance was about right, there wasn't certainly enough of the dark side to show Chuck as a thoroughly unpleasant character.

Apparently the events are still up for debate, but even this was nicely addressed with the lie detector, as is the $600 million gross which apparently is widely overestimated.

Overall an interesting watch and good to see Amanda Seyfried add to to her tally of movie weddings. :D 7/10

I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact that this is Sharon Stone !

Image

as for the film, too much grainy film stock, but all the actors were without exception excellent

8/10 (bonus point for not being too graphic...I was sat next to my mum throughout this & feared much more...erm.....flesh)

Saw in Glasgow tonight. I have to say that Lovelace struck me as being more like a "for TV" biopic movie. The acting was good and my attention was held by the "story" but I didn't really feel any sympathy for Linda (Amanda Seyfried) nor did I feel we saw the whole story . . . In fact, I did feel we were short changed by having great detail of the early part of Linda's life in porn . . . those 18 days which she referred to seemed to last much longer! I don't think I'd have missed anything if I'd not seen Lovelace and I certainly would not have pa*d to see it. :p

I enjoyed this film - did we really wear clothes like that? Once again, I particularly liked the comments being made by the older audience members sitting behind me !!
