nickchanel wrote:One of the most godawful films that I have ever seen. Derivative, lowest common denominator trash. It was as if they had sat down with a formula and stuck to it come what may with the expectation that this will guarantee some kind of success for it at the box office. It upsets me that Jane Horrocks' career has come to this. How do you go from working with Mike Leigh to this? 100 minutes lost from my life that I can never get back. Ugh.
My sentiments exactly. I wanted to leave about five minutes in (and I've never left a film yet), but there were people at either end of me, and so I didn't want to interupt their viewing. I cringed during the entire movie. My OH got more out of it than I did, but I would have preferred staying in my bed this morning, rather than to have to endure this dire tripe.

Saw this at Shaftesbury Avenue this morning with friends, and it was an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning. The opening was surprising and I liked the way there were many stories intertwined. I liked all of the characters and I thought the singing was excellent. I liked the funny looks from some passers-by when someone spontaneously burst into song.
My friends and I really enjoyed this film. Who knew The Proclaimers had so many good songs!

its a 10/10 from me too....absolutly pure dead brilliant!! Such great songs to intertwine into real folks lives. Loved that it had decent stories to tell and the humourous way the songs burst out with the dancing and all....barry stuff liksay :P

Made me feel proud to be a Scot and it was extra special to see my home town looking so beautiful. My teen said it was showing all the polished sides of the city and she wanted a more balanced view but i think that's exactly what it was meant to do being a musical. Liked the wee nod to Trainspotting when he runs nin front of the car.

I can see that dance at the end catching on  . I went away singing its over and one with but sad thsat it was.

Was thinking of you Biggins as it was you debating whether to see the stage play that led me to this forum.....was looking out for you this morning but never seen you......had braw comfy posh screening but dunno why they never dimmed the lights.

I really enjoyed this. It was cute, fun and easy-going. While the songs didn't add anything in terms of plot they were certainly feel-good and brought a smile on my face (especially the Jason Flemyng one) and I really want a soundtrack now! It's basically Glee with Scottish accents and I am okay with that :) 8/10
