The Private Ear and the Public Eye by Peter Shaffer directed by Alastair Whatley designed by Hayley Grindle
Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke
Friday 18th October 7:30pm
The first major revival in 50 years of these intimate one-act plays – both short and bitter-sweet comedies - written by multi-award winning playwright Sir Peter Shaffer (Amadeus, Equus, Lettice & Lovage). The Private Ear is set in a London bedsit, where reclusive Bob calls in a favour from Ted, his confident friend, to help him treat his date to a slap up meal. The Public Eye takes place in a London office, where uptight Charles is confronted by Julian, a private detective hired by Charles to investigate his wife’s suspected infidelity. Bob expects help. Charles expects proof. But in this darkly comic double bill nothing is as it seems.
Starring Jasper Britton, one of the UK’s leading classical actors (Race, Marat/Sade, The Last Cigarette), Steven Blakeley (Heartbeat), Rupert Hill (Coronation Street), and Siobhan O’Kelly (Inspector George Gently, Mutual Friends).
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult
