Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
I still can't understand why they made Kenneth Branagh play the villain with such a terrible Russian accent, but I guess he's the director.

Meh! Some parts were good but there was something missing, didn't float my boat the way I would have liked! 5/10
Sure that was sinbad in it...
blink and you'd miss him!
Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Awful film.Kenneth Brannagh had the worst Russian accent ever and Keira Knightleys American one wasn't much better.
The acting was bad,the story terrible and the whole film felt that it had been made 10 years ago as the story felt so dated.
Not much going for it really.
Yes it was Sinbad for us old enough to remember who he was.
Strange being at a showing in Edinburgh and not being amongst the familiar Glasgow faces.

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
I thought that was brilliantly entertaining and escapist fun - just what you need after a hard day at the office.
Some lines were hilarious ("I work for the CIA." "Oh thank God. I though you had an affair!") and I am not sure the whole thing made much sense but I do love Chris Pine and Kevin Costner. You would rather expect Keira Knightley and Kenneth Brannagh in a British period costume drama together than in this, playing an American and a Russian respectively, but hey ho, it proves the Brits are everywhere these days.
It was great to meet so many FMUKers, some I hadn't seen for the longest time (hdaniel82 was there, everyone!), and any screening in which I am being given four puzzles has to be a winner.

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Edinburgh was very busy tonight. Poor Stuartboy got harassed to move seats to let some wifie sit next to her husband/partner - I have no idea why she wanted to sit next to him as she ignored him and the film and spent the entire film IM someone or other. Had I been able to reach she's lucky she didn't get my boot in her ear!!
So, the film. This was popcorn and I enjoyed it. the accents were terrible but Branner's was much better than Brian Cox's latest effort in Reds etc.
It was Holywood fluff and it was an enjoyable way to spend 1.5 hours.

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Went to see this tonight at Vue Islington.
Lovely to see PXC who had a free seat next to her. Beate and her OH, Ejwrank, David. Sorry I missed funthing and lovely to catch up with CT on the tube back.
The film was a fun action romp. Believable and not demanding on the mind. A great Tuesday night film in January.

Looks as if I'm in the minority for not liking it at the moment.
