Out Of The Furnace
This wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped it would be, very decent cast but only decent performances & it moved at an absolute snail's pace.
That said, I've certainly seen worse dramatic thrillers and as the conclusion was relatively satisfying I think it did just enough to get a 7/10 from me...

I thought it was terrible, excellent casting but didn't do anything for me at all. Far too slow. I think my words at the end of the film were 'is that it?'
Not what I thought it would be, hugely disappointed. Had so much potential but just didn't live up to it.

Re: Out Of The Furnace
In contrast to The Deer Hunter (to which this has been compared), this film fairly galloped along, but then I do love a slower pace.
Superb. Wish it was longer & that Whittaker & Saldana had more screen time (confused...were they father & daughter in this ?)

Re: Out Of The Furnace
Edinburgh was full but I didn't see any of the usual crowd there.
This rattled along at break neck speed for the first 15 minutes leaping through the months then it more or less instantaneously ground to a near halt and stayed that way for the next hour and a half. Gee it was slow. I agree at the end to thinking "was that it - what a waste". Great cast and some good performances but boy did it drag.
I can rustle up 5/10 at a push.

Re: Out Of The Furnace
Overlong, slow and dreary, interspersed with shocking outbursts of violence. Nothing nice ever happens, it's a story without hope from beginning to end. And are we to believe Zoe Saldana (who has such a thankless role) would go for someone like Forest Whitaker? Bale out for revenge was laughable, a bumbling idiot who crashes about trying to catch a gangster. And he's a terrible shot to boot. They bill this a thriller? What was thrilling about it?

Re: Out Of The Furnace
Was it me or did every character mumble when they spoke.Have had a better night watching paint dry.
Kept waiting for Christian Bales character to go all Charles Bronson and go on a revenge killing spree but it never happened.

Yes they did. I haven't got a clue what Harrelson said into the car window. Even though it was repeated twice.scootermcc wrote:Was it me or did every character mumble when they spoke.

A bit too slow for me but a great cast. Watchable but I wouldn't rush to see it. More of a drama than a thriller 6.5/10.

Re: Out Of The Furnace
I didn't see anything to say that they were. It didn't expressly say that they weren't either; but if so there was some rather open and generally accepted incest going on. And they weren't even members of "the inbreeds!"newdot wrote:Whittaker & Saldana had more screen time (confused...were they father & daughter in this ?)

Think Harrelson said "you've got a flat in your rear".Beate wrote:Yes they did. I haven't got a clue what Harrelson said into the car window. Even though it was repeated twice.scootermcc wrote:Was it me or did every character mumble when they spoke.
