That Awkward Moment

#1 Post by Beate » Tue Jan 21, 2014 8:50 pm

Erm... yeah. What was that? A chick-flick for guys who posture a lot about staying single then get soppy about the women in their lives? Awkward. I only stayed for Zac Efron, and he was hamming up the grand final speech gloriously. You could see the tears glistening in his eyes. Oh Zac. I appreciate your acting but can't you do it in better films?

And to the pond life to our left who kept shouting and hollering and generally displaying manners worthy of every typical Sun reader - you're lucky I didn't smash your heads together on the way out.

But the penis costume was awesome. It gets a point. Zac gets the other 5.

There can't be many Sun readers in Edinburgh.Quietest free show I've been at,wasn't even half full. Maybe they went to the Odeon to see the hastily arranged Dallas Buyers Club, wise decision if you did.

It was what I expected and nowhere near as bad as some of the other chick-flicks that I have seen. Who was the chap playing on the Xbox at the end of the credits? I feel that I should recognise him but cannot put a name to the face.

It was Michael K Williams famous for playing Omar in The Wire, from Boardwalk Empire and numerous 5 minute 'roles' in movies.

Film was inoffensive and not all that funny apart from the fancy dress scene which did me laugh quite a few times. 5/10

A few amusing moments but would not put it in the must see films. Edinburgh showing was very quiet but cinema nice and everybody behaved unlike the earlier posting. Certainly would appeal to the younger audience and Zak Efron is easy on the eye.

Hate that WIQ Cineworld is sending everyone to wait in the bar, I do not see anyone spending, if that is what they are thinking. It just makes for a mad scramble to the screen when it is announced, and unfair to those who are slow in the scramble and who came early to be first in the queue. I felt sorry for Beate's OH. It is also dangerous with the escalators involved. Much better if they let people make an orderly queue by the screen.

There were a lot of noisy people around me rustling and chatting. They guy behind me had his foot on the seat next to me, then decided to shake his leg, then crossed his leg and started kicking my seat! I had to turn around and tell him it was very annoying, however, he actually said sorry, and stopped.

Both my friend and I enjoyed it in a strange way, although it could have been better. Zac Efron is growing on me and I agree with Beate about that final speech, and had me welling up! Overall, it was lighthearted, heartwarming and fun. 7/10

What really annoys me is that the bar level ironically is the only one without a toilet so you have to go down or up one level to do that, hereby increasing your chances of being in the wrong place once the screening is called. PXC and I decided to cover all bases - she stood at the down escalator and I was at the up escalator with OH, ready to pounce. When the screening was called, it was for a downstairs screen but I managed to run past a confused PXC and nearly made it in first, narrowly being pipped to the post by two people lurking near the screens - thankfully they didn't want "our" seats. Why am I putting that in ", they ARE our seats. The signs saying so will be installed next week.

Yeah, I was not p*ying attention!
I thought we were first in, so was surprised to see two others already in the screen, hopping from seat to seat trying them out!

When Beate and her OH went to the toilet before the film started, a guy came up to the back row and started eyeing their seats for quite a while, that I had to say to him, that the seats were taken, and he said oh, yeah, I am not going sit on the bag and then moved to the seat next to it, and sat down. Strange, why he was looking at Beate's bag and seat for so long though!

Best bit about this film were the outtakes! I thought it was awful. A real lack of chemistry between the three friends and a predictable storyline that has been done better 10 times before. I wouldn't waste time on this, as much as I like Zac Efron, he couldn't pull it up. A few funny moments but generally a disappointment. 4.5/10.
