Went to the denofgeek screening for this last night at The Mayfair Hotel with Q&A afterwards with the director, Antoine Fuqua.

An extremely violent film (valda and I was squirming consistently throughout), but despite that I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller. Lots of familiar faces, like a guess who! The killings are really novel, and Denzel is great! Yeah, look forward to seeing Denzel again in The Equalizer 2! 8/10

Thanks for the company, valda, everyone was with a plus one until you showed up. Lovely to catch up with davewatts01 and see cliveas, twice in a week!

Ah but the Equaliser isn't a meanie, he's a badass, so think Man on Fire, or Training Day.

W quite enjoyed this film, although I had to hide behind my fan for a lot of it. I admire a director who isn't willing to tone it down so he can get a lower rating and more bums on seats.

Surprisingly entertaining, in large part down to having a villain of similar complexity & attributes as the (anti) hero. All too often the baddie just doesn't cut the mustard...note to Marvel movies.

Stylish nonsense with a great score, 8/10 (tad too long)

Really enjoyed this, much like the original 'Taken' (I won't mention the sequel ) having a quality actor in the central role elevated this movie from being enjoyably forgettable to actually quite special.

I am a little bit annoyed to read above that it was cut (admittedly any cuts made weren't obvious) but hopefully the unrated version will make an appearance at a later date on blu-ray etc.

I will also say that the final act of this film was a little bit disappointing as it felt drawn out & was also dimly lit (making it difficult to see what was happening most of the time) but despite these relatively small complaints the overall viewing experience was still very positive indeed so it more than enough to get an 8/10 from me...

I really enjoyed the start and felt that Washington's character was very fascinating, so it was kind of disappointing when this just gave way to another generic action film in the vein of Taken. Still, it's undeniably entertaining and Washington is magnetic throughout.

Really enjoyed this - perhaps more so owing to seeing it in an almost private screening on IMAX.
Loved the violence (if that doesn't sound too wrong). Did notice that there were some cut-away moments where the next shot was where a deed had been done. Now realise these were the edited bits. Boo. Lots of novel scenes.

Found it a bit slow to get going anywhere. Looked at my watch and it was about 25 minutes in and not a thing had happened at all. Didn't even think I'd been properly introduced to the character.
Once it got going it just went and went.

Can't remember the original with Edward Woodward to compare. Not really sure what the point of a remake of a TV show is where it only has a passing resemblence.

Who spotted the Jaguar XJ6 used in one scene - did Edward Woodward not drive one in his show? A wee homage perhaps? Or just co-incidence.
