This was underwhelming and definitely undeserving of my extended travel time to get to and from the 02 plus the long wait in the screen before the film started.

Unimpressive acting, insufficient character development, pointless 3D, pacing problems, shoddy special effects and an unnecessarily long running time. The only positive attribute I can ascribe to the film is that it was better than Noah. 6/10.

Well I arrived just after 6.30pm at the 02, just in case and fingers crossed that one of timings that it was starting at 7pm was accurate, but alas it was not too be.

Asked one of the ushers if there were two screenings as there were two different timings, and was told that it was a Sky screening and Sky had given out a few allocations to Times. And was told that they were letting people into the Superscreen and to go there. When I arrived there, there was a queue snaking round and doubling back to the entrance, which I joined. After about 10 minutes, an usher announced that we had the option of going up to the balcony if we wanted, and to follow another usher who would escort us up. Not many took up the option, and the balcony filled up ever so slowly. It was lovely to see vealster and missgotty again, and evilzadi, who unfortunately with the late start had to leave again, without seeing the film.

Film finally started at 8.15pm. Why do they have to be so late these days. They spent all evening repeating the live red carpet action and interviews. I would rather they had the screening the next day without the red carpet so we can start at a reasonable time! Red carpet is no fun unless you are actually there!

I agree with funthing, not worth the wait or the trek to the 02. All I thought at the end was this was looonnnng!

Although it did keep my attention, I eventually dropped off within seconds of the ending! OH said I did not miss much. Surprisingly, he rather liked it, and said it had more substance than Noah, kept the momentum even though it was long and gave it 8/10. But from me, poor 3D and CGI, poor script, and emotionless acting, that just did not come to life for me or for me to sympathise with the Hebrews or the Egyptians, 6/10.

Caught this last night with the OH and we were both in agreement on this one and like many here, found it to be bloated and that it was so focused on Bale and Edgerton's performances that the rest of the characters were little more than window dressing.

If you've seen much of Cecil b DemIlle's work, then seeing 'Exodus' isn't necessary. Saying that, I thought the CGI where used, was well done and felt that the Ten Plagues of Egypt was pretty spectacular.

I was very disappointed - as usual these days it was too long and pedestrian.

It was dull even the action scenes were sparse - before the movie we had Ridley Scott banging on that it was epic??

Not a patch on Gladiator.

Plus 3D was a waste of time.

5/10
I too couldn't believe that the man who directed Gladiator, directed this massive, bloated overlong piece of rubbish imo. I was reduced to thinking of the Plagues and how many there were, and what they were. Film probably wasn't screened properly, tops of peoples heads cut off, odd colours, shoddy effects and the worst thing

Couldn't agree with you more John.

Strange casting choices, who ever thought that Spud from trainspotting complete with his Scottish accent would make a good Egyptian.

Also saw Exodus at the crazy late screening at the O2, it was lovely to see prettyxcool there.

Wasn't that impressed by the film, it was just ok and sometimes boring. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen which never materialized. Some of the cast I would have changed for other actors as I didn't feel they matched the role.

Overall I'd much rather watch The 10 Commandments any day. 5/10.

Saw this tonight and I have to say it was rather beige. In both senses of the word. Looked like how I believe a dog would perceive colours. Boy did it drag. I do hate the 30 minutes of ads and trailers (especially when you are seeing the same ones for the 5th time in a week) followed by BACON(!!!!!) but when this makes for a 3 hour sit it gets tedious. Managed to sit through the trailers then Zzzzzd through large lumps of the first quarter. No concept of how Mose got to hanging out at Pharoah's house, for instance. I came back to life when the plagues started and it got a bit interesting.
Accents? (Again!) Odd how Mose had an American accent, yet God had an English public schoolboy voice...and of course Ewan Bremner's Scottish accent coming through in his Egyptian portrayal.

Worth a view. Definitely not a masterpiece. Wouldn't bother watching again.

Although I appreciate there was a need to use actors with a decent track record at the box office (in order for the money men to sign off on a film with significant budgetary requirements) that doesn't really excuse some of the poor casting choices that have been made here.

Whilst Christian Bale is solid (nothing special though) the likes of Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Ben Mendelsohn & Ewen Bremner are completely wrong for their respective roles and even worse an actor of Aaron Paul's quality ends up being criminally underused (so much so I had to check the end credits to make sure it was definitely him playing the role of 'Joshua').

In addition to the above, the amount of fake tan on display is quite frankly ridiculous and ends up becoming so distracting that it makes it very difficult to connect emotionally with the majority of performances being made here.

To be fair though it isn't all bad, visually speaking it's exactly what you'd expect Ridley Scott to deliver and the sections of the movie dedicated to the plagues plus the subsequent crossing of the Red Sea are very well done indeed.

That said, it's hard to view this as anything other than a disappointment, it's not a complete disaster by any means but as an overall viewing experience it really doesn't deserve anything more than a low 7/10...

Exodus: Gods and Kings was an amazing movie. It had a rich storyline and amazing characters. All in all I would give it a 9/10.

Real shame the Hobbit 3 hogged the IMAX screens during the holidays as this deserved an IMAX conversion and release. Another gorgeously shot ridley movie, with heavy use of the magic hours (dawn and twilight) during filming. Always difficult to judge what accents to put in an ancient historical movie since ANY accent feels out of place in them, so its not really fair to criticise them as long as most of them tended towards something similar, in this case they were largely a kind of stern middle eastern tinged norm. Pity Siggy Weaver had to rock the boat then with an American accent. I would have certainly not cast her if she came in auditioning like that, and she wasn't the only one upsetting the cart.

The story treads the line between portraying Moses both as a saviour or a nutjob psycho, with physical explanantions offered for most of the plagues.

A good (but somewhat short of great) R. Scott movie. But its not Scotts fault the actual story isnt action packed humdinger with laughs a minute..... that's the Bible's fault!
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
