I was prepared for a little light-hearted cinema fare this morning and new Dreamworks animation Home certainly doesn't disappoint in that regard. With it's occasionally frantic pacing and brightly coloured 3D visuals it's the cinematic equivalent of eating far too many sugary sweets. As such it's perfect for kids but could prove a little headache-inducing for adults (and a nightmare for those immune to the music of Rihanna who also voices one of the lead characters).

All that aside it's also very likeable thanks in part to the vocal contributions of Jim Parsons and Steve Martin (whose alien Captain Smek's misuse of human objects gives the film it's most amusing moments).
Light but enjoyable stuff.

Oh and anyone seeing it tomorrow, there's nothing after the credits.

I really enjoyed this, though I know McG didn't! Cute beyond belief, loved the use of colour to demonstrate the mood of the aliens. Agree that Jim Parsons was perfectly cast. Really just what I needed today.

I think it was spoiled by Jim Parsnip as all I could hear when he spoke was Sheldon Cooper (and let's face it that show is on TV 24/7). Very surprised to see the other cast members listed in the credits as I never recognised any of them. Quite amused at how Rhianna (or however the hell she spells her name) particularly liked her own songs in the soundtrack. Lol. Just as well she never sang Rude Boy though!
Loved the colour changing aliens, even if some of the jokes and visual gags were as old as the hills.

Stayed awake so gets thumbs up from me.

Question: how come if this is a preview and thus unseen before, did the wee boy beside me say "There's Pig" when the cat (who was called Pig) first appeared. How could he know?

It was apparently based on a book, so the kid could have known Pig the cat from that. I have also seen a cinema trailer a little while ago.

I really enjoyed this, though I know McG didn't!.

I thought this was an ok film but certainly not enchanting for many young children given the number who went to the toilet. There were some young children in the audience and they were the most frequent toilet goers . . .which I noticed probably because of where I was sitting . . .very different place from usual. I think I probably had too high an expectation of Home given previews but it was not an unpleasant way to spend a Saturday morning . . .never mind I'm going on holiday on Monday morning!
I've seen it once but don't think I'd watch it again.

I loved the film.just so many colours,loveable and enjoyable.
Southampton odeon was under 1/2 full.

Colourful, loud and not particularly funny, I never really warmed to the main character or the film.

I didn't really like all the pop songs plastered all over it as well. Pretty average 5/10

from grown ups perspective, this is pretty horrible. Little kids will probably like it in parts (effects, 3D etc). MY main gripe for kids is that the film tries to blend a pretty extrtavagant scifi film plot line (alien migration) with a really dull as dishwater plot. I don't see the point in mixing something that's beyond little kids to understand with something too boring to keep their attention.

Which is a real shame, since the visuals 3D and soundtrack were competent. All the more agonising that millions were wasted getting all those features right just to waste it with a poorly judged movie.

absolutely hated the way the person voicing "Oh" was speaking in broken English but in a perfectly normal American accent. Cant put my finger on why but it felt so bad.

Seen this today in Glasgow. Thought it was a nice colourful film that showed the value of friendship and family no matter who you are. Most of the wee ones at the screen seemed happy and it was much better than the Croods so was I was pleasantly surprised. DD is nearly 12 and she quite enjoyed it so not just for younger children. 7/10 from us and would watch again.

This was better than I was expecting based on the trailer. Very colourful and mildly funny. Had way too much pop music for my liking. It's definitely more for children. 6.5/10
