Previous versions of windows used to allow you to do manual updates, there was a drop down menu to select the way you wanted it done. Me? I set it to check but never download until I was ready.
The only - I repeat ONLY - way to do this now is to tell the system that the internet connection is metered. That setting is found in the internet connection properties.

Its a crazy situation.

Hotmail has automatically changed its view to look like Outlook, which I'm not keen on. Does anyone know of a hack to change it back please?

Thank you.

Windows 10 can be a right PITA with its demanding you enter your password endlessly. Well there is a solution.

2 solutions actually to attack 2 different situations.

1) When booting up it asks you to login.
To stop this you need to do the following
Open a run box ( win key + r ) and type the following in the run box
netplwiz
and hit enter or click ok.
On the page that appears is a check box. Clear it, and click on apply. Enter your password twice in the box that pops up and ok your way out (make sure that your ms login email is all there).
Now every time you reboot you are taken straight to the desktop.

2) When you go into standby, ie by closing the lid, it asks you to enter your password when you come out of standby. Really annoying on a tablet.
What makes it worse is there is no built in feature in windows to stop this. Even the above method fails to cure this.

You need to do the following.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Created by: Shawn Brink
; http://www.tenforums.com
; Tutorial: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/6567 ... -10-a.html

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"NoLockScreen"=dword:00000001
Copy everything in the above quote into notepad - please don't use any other program, the smarter it is the more difficult the next bit is to achieve successfully. You could end up wrecking your system by using word for example. You will find it in all apps - windows accessories - notepad.

Now you can save the file as Disable_Lock_Screen.reg and change the Type to "all files" to stop it adding an unnecessary .txt to the filename.

Edit: You can download the file from here instead. Probably quicker.

Now go to the saved file and run it. You want it to modify the registry so say yes to any pop-up boxes that appear.

You will need to reboot but you will never see another login screen again when you come out of standby.

It is possible to do the above by opening the registry editor and adding the key and dword manually but double clicking a file is quicker.

NB You need 2 different methods as both situations are controlled differently. Neither method affects the other.

It took me a fair bit of googling to find all this out.

PS. It all works in windows 8 also.

I'm glad I have passwords set. Less chance of someone randomly using my devices.

Windows 10 is being a pain to me now. It doesn't wake up from standby, I just get a black screen. I have to keep pressing the power button, then eventually the screen goes grey and a couple of mins later I can log in again. :x  Any thoughts?

I have been having the same problem for a while now, it didn't occur that it was Windows 10, thought it was my laptop. Anyway a quick google and it seems that everyone is having the same problem, I found this:

http://www.windows10forums.com/threads/ ... leep.1714/

Don't know if it works (may be related to HP models only?), just tried it, didn't have any errors, but will have to wait until it happens again (or not) to find out. Hope it helps.
